Creme Brulee French Toast Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1 stick unsalted butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar - packed
  • 2 Tbs. corn syrup
  • Lg. Loaf - French or Italian Country Bread (crusts removed)
  • 5 lg. eggs
  • 1 - 1/2 cups half & half
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 tsp. Grand Marnier
  • 1/4 tsp. salt

Directions
  1. In a small heavy saucepan and over moderate heat, melt butter, brown sugar and corn syrup.
  2. Stir until smooth and evenly pour the butter/sugar mixture into a 9”x13”x2” non-stick baking pan to cover the bottom of the pan.
  3. Remove the crust from the bread and slice into 1” slices.
  4. Arrange the bread slices in one layer to cover the bottom of the mixture you may need to fit the slices together or cut pieces to fit the spaces between.
  5. In a mixing bowl, beat the eggs, half & half, vanilla, Grand Marnier and salt until combined.
  6. Pour or ladle the egg mixture evenly over the bread to ensure that all of the bread receives the egg mixture.
  7. Cover with plastic wrap and chill overnight in the refrigerator.
  8. In the morning, pre-heat the oven to 350°.
  9. Remove the bread mixture from the refrigerator and bring up to room-temperature.
  10. Bake the bread mixture, uncovered, for 35 to 40 minutes or until puffed and the edges are golden brown.
  11. Serve upside-down immediately !

Can you tell me what is half & half? what is alternative ingredients, do you think?

Can't wait to try this one! I love the fact that you assemble this one the night before. It's great to just be able to pop it in the oven when you're ready!

BTW...Sagami...Half and half is half cream/half milk. You can buy it in the dairy section of any grocery store. It usually comes in quart and pint size cartons and it says half and half right on the carton.


Sounds great for the holidays. I'd probably have to double it or I won't get a taste with my family, just the kind of thing they enjoy


I love the sound of this recipe.It is similar to a bread pudding I made last week.
