This is my grandma's recipe...over 80 years old! It is a favorite with everyone! Perfect with coffee or tea or anytime. It's not too sweet and its very moist!

- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup mashed bananas (2-3 very ripe ones!)
- 1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 eggs
- 2 cups flour - regular or self-rising
- 1/2 cup nuts, chopped or poppy seeds
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt

Ingredients

1 cup sugar shopping list
1 cup mashed bananas (2-3 very ripe ones!) shopping list
1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened shopping list
1/4 cup milk shopping list
1 tsp vanilla extract shopping list
2 eggs shopping list
2 cups flour - regular or self-rising shopping list
1/2 cup nuts, chopped or poppy seeds shopping list
1 tsp baking soda shopping list
1/2 tsp salt shopping list

How to make it

Preheat oven to 350F/180C
Spray bread pan with cooking spray.
Mix first 6 ingredients together. Beat 1 minute on medium speed until all 6 ingredients are well blended.
Stir in remaining ingredients on high speed until moist and completely mixed.
Bake for 50 - 60 minutes - depending on oven. When toothpick comes out clean, it is ready!
Enjoy warm or not!

This was the most dense banana bread I've ever eaten. It didn't turn out at all like I was expecting - still super moist and almost like a sponge cake inside. Not sure if I did something incorrectly...but either way, it was still delicious! Served it warm with a dallop of whipped cream on top!

OMG!!!! this is the best banana bread ever
My compliments to your grandma.....Now I was in such a hurry to get in the oven before my girls came home that I misread the recipe and thought it also said 1 tsp of baking powder (my bad ) so I tried to get it out but it was just not going to work. so I left it in and prayed for the best. Well it came out awesome and I also added a tsp of cinnamon and that is only because I love the taste of it. Great great great thank you for the recipe!!
P.S I put up my picture (sorry my camera is not good its a bit fuzzy but trust me it is good!!)

Oh crap!!! I had to make two loafs to fit the new bread pans I purchased, and I forgot to put 1/2 cup of butter in the second loaf... I hope it turns out OK!

mmmm just what husband and me felt like sitting on the couch watching t.v.... 20 minutes later it's in the oven! will let ya know how it goes coz i didn't have any butter left (too much baking!) so had to use oil. hopefully still tastes good. smells yum anyway and the bowl licking very tasty!

You forgot the pound of butter to smear on the hot or cold slices of banana bread. What is a slice of banana bread without artery clogging, heart stopping real butter! The dragon lady makes banana bread so I will have to compare the two. Yours does sound yummy. Where are my ripe bananas?
