How to make it

  • In a heavy bottomed saucepan heat oil then add onion and cook gently for 10 minutes.
  • Add butter, turmeric, rice, almonds and pine nuts to onion and stir 3 minutes.
  • Add celery, cherries and cinnamon then add 3-1/4 cups water and bring to a boil.
  • Stir once then cover and reduce heat to the lowest setting and simmer 35 minutes.
  • When rice is cooked stir in lemon juice, scallions and fresh herbs.
