Ingredients

How to make it

  • Meatball:
  • Directions
  • Mix everything together
  • brown in skillet; will take multiple batches obviously.
  • This must be done by the time you're adding the tomato sauce to the marinara.
  • ----------------------------------------------
  • Marinara Sauce:
  • Directions
  • Chop onion and finely chop garlic
  • Saute onion and garlic in big pot
  • In a blender or food processor, blend the tomato cans and tomato paste together (What I do since i have a blender is to blend one can of peeled tomatoes, adding it to the sauted onion and garlic, and then blending the other can with the tomato paste.)
  • Add tomatoes to onion and garlic
  • Add the herbs to taste (I usually do 2 Tbsp Oregano and 1 Tbsp everything else(dried))
  • Add pinch of sugar
  • Add meatballs
  • Partially cover
  • Cook 30-35 min. over low heat stirring occasionally
  • ----------------------------------------------
  • Ziti:
  • Directions
  • Preheat oven to 350 F
  • Boil Ziti to al dente
  • Mix most of the Ricotta and half the mozzarella with the noodles
  • ----------------------------------------------
  • ----------------------------------------------
  • ----------------------------------------------
  • Final Assembly:
  • Directions
  • On the bottom of the dish put a layer of sauce and meatballs
  • Ziti and cheese mixture goes next
  • 6 slices of provolone on top of that
  • From there it just goes Sauce and meatballs, ziti and cheese, sauce and meatballs
  • Cover with the rest of the mozzarella
  • Grate parmesan and Romano over the mozzarella
  • Bake at 350 F for 30 minutes, or until cheese
  • -
  • After hours slaving away making this beautiful dish, feel free to pour yourself a glass or two of red wine and dig in.

Love your homemade marinara in this dish (and the flavorful meatballs, too!)...I usually use a jarred sauce, but this looks like it would be worth the effort - nice post, and love the picture...thanks!
