Taco Bell Taco Seasoning Clone Recipe
I actually got this recipe from the net and I'm not sure who originally came up with this. It's so good though, I wanted to share it with you folks. I haven't altered it in any way because I like it the way it is. The only change I made to this was t... More

Ingredients
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon dried minced onion
  • 1 teaspoon beef bouillon granules (or crush 1 beef bouillon cube and take 1 tsp from that)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon granulated sugar

Directions
  1. Combine and store in an air-tight container.
  2. Notes: To make taco meat, brown 1 lb ground beef in skillet; drain.
  3. Add seasoning mix and 3/4 cup of water. You may need to add a bit more water while simmering to adjust the consistency a bit.
  4. Bring to a boil then reduce heat.
  5. Simmer uncovered, 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Note: The cornstarch and flour work well together,so I don't eliminate 1 or the other. The bouillon adds a rich flavour. If you're using a bouillon cube, measure 1 tsp after crushing it. I found the seasoning very salty when using 1 whole cube.

I will be trying this the next time we have tacos. Thanks!

Gonna try this, neon. Thanks

Do you think this sauce would work just as well for chicken or turkey tacos? It sounds great, but the hubs doesn't eat beef! Thanks a bunch :)

Hi Cherry PtWife21, I've not tried either one to be honest. Chicken I think would go very nice, and that would be my first choice to try - Turkey would be an interesting experiment to play around with afterwards (IMHO). I would start out gradually with the seasoning if the meat is sliced or diced, and add water accordingly. The seasoning should bind nicely with the cooked meat, but using too much seasoning on sliced or diced meat, could end up too pastey. Hope this helps, and let me know how it turns out if you try it?

Tried this on Superbowl Sunday for nachos and it was so good! I like being able to control the salt (used garlic powder instead of garlic salt). No more store bought taco mix for us!

Thank you SandySunshine, I'm glad you liked it! I don't buy anymore taco mix either - I prefer this recipe.
