Ingredients

How to make it

  • Generously grease a 9x13" baking dish with butter, salted OR unsalted.
  • Arrange bread in two tightly-packed layers in the pan.
  • Cut up slices can fill in gaps.
  • If you are using fruit or nut fillings, this is when you add them in amongst the bread crevices.
  • Whisk milk, eggs, sugar, salt and booze and pour over the bread.
  • Sprinkle lightly with cinnamon and sugar.
  • Wrap tightly in plastic and refrigerate overnight.
  • The bread will absorb all the milk custard while you sleep.
  • Preheat oven to 425 degrees F.
  • Unwrap plastic from baking pan.
  • Bake for 30 minutes OR until puffed and golden.
  • Cut into generous squares.
  • Serve with maple syrup, fresh fruit, powdered sugar OR all of the above.

I've never tried using Challah bread for any of my french toast dishes, but it has to be wonderful with that sweet interior...gotta give this a try - sounds delish!
