Sweet And Sour Meatloaf Recipe

Sweet And Sour Meatloaf Recipe
This is adapted from allrecipes.com and the flavors are amazing! Made it last night, and it's definitely a keeper. I think it would be quite tasty to turn it into meatballs for a potluck or party too. Try it.....you'll like it!

Ingredients
  • 1 1/2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 cup dry bread crumbs
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon dried minced onion
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (for meat)
  • 1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon each-onion powder and garlic powder (for sauce)
  • 2 tablespoons cider vinegar
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 2 teaspoons prepared mustard (the dry mustard powder)

Directions
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. Mix together the meat, bread crumbs, salt, black pepper, eggs minced onion and garlic powder and 1/2 of a 15 oz can of tomato sauce.
  3. Shape into meatloaf and place in pan-I used a small loaf pan for this-press outer edges of loaf down slightly to make a well for adding sauce later (so it doesn;t just sit on top but oozes down the sides of the meat).
  4. Place in preheated oven and bake for about 40 minutes.
  5. Make the sauce:
  6. In small saupan, combine remaining tomato sauce along with brown and white sugar, cider vinegar, mustard powder, onion & garlic powder.
  7. Bring to a boil-remove from heat.
  8. Pour sauce over meatloaf after it's baked for 40 minutes and return to oven for another 15-20 minutes.
  9. Let sit 5 minutes before removing from pan.
  10. Make a double batch of sauce cuz it is soooo good served over white rice.

The ingredients here are truly interesting going as it does from the brown sugar to vinegar in one fell swoop. I'm really liking the idea of this, doll. Thanks and my 5.

This does sound delicious! I agree, this would make great meatballs!

I'm all about sweet and tangy, and this one fits the bill perfectly - I think you're so right about it making a great meatball appetizer, too. Nice post, doll!

Ohhhhh......and that sauce was soooo good on chicken too!
