Pig Candy
From lilchef7 16 years agoIngredients
- 1 lb bacon (NO turkey bacon, please!) shopping list
- golden brown sugar shopping list
- cayenne pepper shopping list
- black pepper shopping list
- salt or coarse ground salt shopping list
How to make it
- Preheat oven according to baking directions on bacon package. If there are no oven directions, preheat to 375.
- Place bacon in a shallow baking dish, large enough to accomodate slices in a single layer, and also to collect extra grease.(Do NOT use a rack of any kind...yes, the grease will drip off, but so will the brown sugar before it can melt...yikes!)
- Sprinkle each slice with pletny of cayenne to cover. Sprinkle each piece next with LOTS of brown sugar. Next, sprinkle a pinch of salt and black pepper over slices to finish.
- Bake (or broil, if you prefer) according to directions on package, turning bacon halfway through and coating the other sides with the same series of toppings.
- If bacon is not super crisp when it is done baking, place in broiler about 1 minute each side to crisp. You can also broil the bacon, just make sure to watch it on each side. It is very important for the brown sugar to caramelize and melt before flipping the bacon as well.
- Cool bacon on paper towels, or just place straight into a folded-over paper bag. Bacon should look dark, crisp, and candy-like. Serve warm for a special treat, or serve cold to ensure a more candy-like taste.
