How to make it

  • Pour butter into a 9 inch square baking pan; sprinkle with brown sugar. Arrange apples cut side up in a single layer over sugar; set aside.
  • For gingerbread, in a large bowl, beat butter, sugars, molasses, and egg until blended. Combine flour, baking soda, salt, and spices; add to sugar mixture alternately with hot tea, beating well after each.
  • Pour over apples. Bake at 350 for 45 to 50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean. Cool for 10 minutes before inverting onto a serving plate. Serve warm.
