Old Fashioned Caramel Cake

- 1 stick butter shopping list
- 1 1/2 cup sugar shopping list
- 2 eggs shopping list
- 2 cups sifted flour shopping list
- 1 cup buttermilk shopping list
- 1 tbsp vinegar shopping list
- 1 tsp soda shopping list
- 1 tsp. vanilla shopping list
- caramel FROSTING shopping list
- 1 stick butter shopping list
- 1 box light brown sugar shopping list
- 1/2 cup evaporated milk shopping list
- 1/2 tsp. baking powder shopping list
How to make it
- Cream butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
- Add eggs one at a time, and continue beating.
- Add sifted dry ingredients alternately with buttermilk. Blend well.
- Stir in soda which has been dissolved in vinegar.
- Add vanilla.
- Pour into 2 greased and floured 9 inch layer cake pans.
- Bake in 350 degree oven until done (my mom's recipe..I think 30 minutes)
- Cook and frost with icing.
- FROSTING:
- Melt butter in heavy sauce pan.
- Add sugar and stir.
- To blend well add milk and cook to soft ball stage.
- Remove from heat and let stand about 5 minutes.
- Add baking powder and beat until smooth and creamy. (The more you beat the creamier the frosting).
- Frost cake.
