Cherry Orange Sorbet Recipe

Cherry Orange Sorbet Recipe
This was kind of an experiment, but it turned out so wonderfully, I have to make it again. The texture was so smooth and rich, and the flavors were so intense... it was hard just to stop after the little bit I served as a palate cleanser between cou... More

Ingredients
  • 1 bag frozen cherries
  • 3 oranges (I used 2 blood oranges, 1 regular)
  • 1 1/2 c. sugar
  • 2 Tbs. of liquer, either orange or cherry (I used Grand Marnier)

Directions
  1. Put the cherries in a medium saucepan over low heat. Zest the oranges in large strips (you'll pick these out later, make it easy on yourself), and then add the juice of the oranges and zest to the cherries. Add the sugar, and lightly simmer for a couple minutes.
  2. Remove from heat, and add the liquer. Stir, and let cool.
  3. Remove the zest, and put the mixture in the blender, and puree until smooth. Strain well, using a very fine strainer to get out all the excess cherry skin. Refrigerate until chilled.
  4. Use your ice cream maker, or put in the freezer, and stir frequently as it freezes. Let it harden in the freezer for at least half an hour after using your ice cream maker for optimal results. Great when served with fresh cherries or orange slices.

Aimee this looks good....
It must be nice to have your husband cook with you, and I see he really likes your recipes, all of them! And you his!

Hee hee... how'd you guess which one my husband is? =P We're very supportive of each other's cooking. We each try things the other wouldn't have thought of to make, so we have very different recipes. We've kind of tried to stay away from competing against each other, but I think there's still a debate over whose tomato sauce is the best. =P (Mine, of course.) Out of all the recipes I've posted so far though, this is by far the most reward for the work involved. It's pretty easy, and tastes better than like Haagen Daaz sorbet. Seriously, I can't get over how amazingly rich and smooth the texture was.. totally worth it to make.

I suspect this would end up being better than the best Italian sorbetto I've tried. I'm REALLY looking forward to trying this. Did you use sweet or tart cherries?

I used sweet cherries. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did! =)
