A traditional meze or light meal on the island of Crete, dakos is often called "Greek bruschetta," and is easy to make with few ingredients and no cooking.

  • 3/4 cup Feta cheese; crumbled
  • 1 teaspoon oregano
  • 2 tablespoons Kalamata olives; chopped
  • 1/2 cup ripe tomatoes; chopped
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 4 Cretan barley rusks

Directions
  1. Combine first five ingredients in a bowl and place in refrigerator for at
  2. least an hour or overnight.
  3. Sprinkle rusks with a few drops of water to moisten slightly.
  4. Top each rusk with the prepared cheese and tomato mixture.
  5. Set aside for 10 minutes and then serve with a chilled glass of white wine.

Sounds fantastic. Don't think I can get Cretan barley rusks but can toast crusty bread. In Brooklyn,you can get everything.


You can just try regular rusks, wheat or white
