Ingredients
  • 1 (16oz.) package of extra firm tofu (drained, pressed and cut into 1/2 inch cubes)
  • 1/4 cup of low sodium soy sauce
  • 4 Tblsp of maple syrup
  • 4 Tblsp of ketchup
  • 2 Tblsp of white or red wine vinegar
  • 1 dash of red hot chili sauce (or any favorite chili sauce) OR TO TASTE
  • 1 Tblsp of sesame seeds
  • 1/2 tsp of garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp of ground black pepper
  • 2 tsp of liquid smoke flavoring

Directions
  1. (Preheat oven to 375F.)
  2. Lightly spray a non-stick baking tray.
  3. In a large mixing bowl stir together the soy sauce, maple syrup, ketchup, vinegar and hot sauce.
  4. Stir in the sesame seeds, garlic powder, black pepper, liquid smoke and mix well.
  5. Stir the tofu cubes into the prepared sauce and mix to coat, marinate for 1-2 hour or even better over night.
  6. Place the tofu in the sprayed baking tray in a single layer and pour evenly on top the rest of the marinating sauce from the bowl.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 45 minuted to 1 hour, turning the cubes every 15 - 20 minutes for evenly cooking until they turn golden brown.
  8. Serve with steamed veggies, green salad, pasta, couscous or orzo.
