  • This book I discovered at Barnes & Noble and although I’m notorious for finding deals there; I paid full price for this one. The index alone is a prize because it is cross referenced by not only the recipe type but also by the ingredient so you can find anything you’re looking for.
  • It is a spiral-bound book and is a fairly thick volume and a indispensable reference if you like slow-cooking cook books like I do. I know I don’t have them all but I have some great ones!
  • In the contents you have: Appetizers, Snacks & Beverages; Soups & Stews; Slow Cooked Sides; Meaty Main Dishes; Poultry Entrees; Meatless Main Dishes; Perfect For Potlucks; Swift Sides For Slow Cooked Suppers; Slow Cooked Desserts; Stocking The Pantry.
  • You’ll find simple recipes where the time for most of these recipes is under 30 minutes. There are more than 385 enticing recipes that use simple, basic ingredients combining unique flavors and creating dishes that look like it took much longer to make than it really did! Granted for many of the dishes you have to allow between 6 to 8 hours to cook them in the slow cooker. Often times if I’m awake in the wee hours of the morn, I’ll assemble everything then turn the crock pot on and then by the next morning or afternoon my dish will be done! That way, I can either have it for lunch or cool then refrigerate it for dinner that night.
  • I frequently cook for my parents and if you cook for crowds the crock pot is a great tool to use in conjunction with your oven. I have 2 slow-cookers: one is standard size and the other is large enough to put a large chicken in or ham or any large cut of meat. They conserve power making them very energy efficient and “green” if you will. Any time I don’t have to heat a massive oven up I think I’m contributing to the environment even in a small way.
  • I have a large pantry and rotate the appliances I have out on the counters in my kitchen. That way, when I’m cooking I can have as much open counter space as possible. So oftentimes my crock pots are in my pantry behind closed doors when I’m not using them.
  • I recently got a large electric griddle with a warming tray and aside from having a nice, large area to make pancakes, French toast or eggs you can grill Italian sausages for lasagne or meat sauces, and browning meat before you add it to the slow cooker often seals in the juices and gives more depth in flavor to the dish.
  • Some of the dishes that I want to try and would recommend in this book are:
  • Ratatouille Soup with Beans
  • Country Italian Beef
  • Beef in Red Wine Gravy
  • Meatball Cassoulet
  • Swedish Meatballs
  • Mediterranean Meat Loaf
  • Tomato-Sauced Pork Chops
  • Moo-Shu-Style Chicken
  • Teriyaki Chicken with Orange Sauce
  • Chicken Pesto Sandwich
  • Zippy Italian Mini Meatballs
  • Rosemary-Buttered Potatoes
  • Smoked Cheddar Mashed Potatoes
  • Olive Bread
  • Nutty Herbed Focaccia Wedges
  • Dutch Apple Pudding Cake
  • Roasted Chicken
  • Chunky Marinara Sauce
  • Beef Broth
  • Chicken Broth
  • Vegetable Stock
  • Slow Cooker Mexican Tomatoes and much much more!

Directions
  1. The recipes in the book are all very easy yet provide an impressive result! You can have company dinners with ease by using this tried and true favorite. I guarantee if you like your crock pot and it likes you-you will have to have this book. The index will come in handy to help you use all kinds of things in your pantry and fridge!
