Stuffed Figs Recipe

Stuffed Figs Recipe
These go wonderfully with a good cup of coffee. I usually make them a few weeks before Christmas and give them as gifts.

Ingredients
  • 20 dried figs
  • 20 roasted almonds (usually, unsalted, but salted are nice also)
  • 20 pieces of dark chocolate that are small enough to fit inside the figs
  • 40 fennel seeds(you can use more if you like)
  • 4 large bay leaves (optional)
  • 1 inch piece of cinnamon bark(optional)
  • 10 cloves(optional)

Directions
  1. Preheat oven to 350F.
  2. Cut off the hard ends of the figs.
  3. Cut a hole in each fig and insert a piece of chocolate, an almond and 2 fennell seeds. Press together to seal.
  4. Place on a cookie sheet lined with foil or parchment.
  5. Bake until they take on a light coloring, about 10 minutes. (Check after 5 to be on the safe side.)
  6. After they cool, put into a container with the bay leaves, cloves and cinnamon sticks for at least two weeks so that the figs can absorb the aromas or skip this step and just enjoy them as they are.

What an unusual recipe. I love the idea of infusing the figs with wonderful aromatics like this. Love the fennel too. Very nice indeed, can't wait to give it a try.
