How to make it

  • Cut chicken into serving size pieces, coat with flour
  • Heat lard in heavy pot, brown chicken pieces
  • Remove chicken, add onions and fry at lower temperature until glassy
  • Add chopped fresh peppers and tomatoes (halved), gently fry until soft
  • Add paprika powder and fry a couple of minutes
  • Add stock or water and stir
  • Add salt and pepper together with chicken pieces (my grandma put in whole black peppercorns which provide an interesting surprise -to be done with caution! - but I like it)
  • Bring to boil then reduce to very low temperature to finish
  • Check liquid and stir occasionally to avoid sticking, add liquid as necessary.
  • Shortly before serving stir in sour cream if used

I've had this printed out in my go to recipe binder forever. I must have taken it out because I couldn't find it today! I searched for over an hour trying to find it in my bookmarks! I'm SOOO happy i found it. My family LOVES THIS so much they would've been wrecked if I had to try a different recipe! Thank you again for a family favorite. I've copy and pasted it to my computer then emailed it to myself lol!!!! I won't lose it again

Thanks for reminding me about paprikash! I used to make it all the time about a hundred years ago. I'm saving this one for sure!
