Hungarian Chicken Paprikash

- 4 lb chicken shopping list
- large dab of lard shopping list
- 2 onions shopping list
- 2 tbsp sweet paprika powder shopping list
- 1 small sweet red pepper shopping list
- 1 small green pepper shopping list
- 1-2 tomatoes shopping list
- 2 tbsp flour shopping list
- 2 - 3 cups of water or chicken stock shopping list
- 1 cup of sour cream (optional) shopping list
- salt and pepper to taste shopping list
How to make it
- Cut chicken into serving size pieces, coat with flour
- Heat lard in heavy pot, brown chicken pieces
- Remove chicken, add onions and fry at lower temperature until glassy
- Add chopped fresh peppers and tomatoes (halved), gently fry until soft
- Add paprika powder and fry a couple of minutes
- Add stock or water and stir
- Add salt and pepper together with chicken pieces (my grandma put in whole black peppercorns which provide an interesting surprise -to be done with caution! - but I like it)
- Bring to boil then reduce to very low temperature to finish
- Check liquid and stir occasionally to avoid sticking, add liquid as necessary.
- Shortly before serving stir in sour cream if used
