How to make it

  • In a nonreactive saucepan,bring the water,sugar,grape juice,star anise and salt to a boil.
  • Reduce heat and simmer,stirring until sugar is dissolved.
  • Add:
  • 1 pound fresh sweet cherries,lemon juice,almond extract.
  • Simmer until the cherries are just tender,about 5 minutes.
  • Remove from heat and allow the cherries to cool to room temperature in the syrup.
  • Cover,refrigerate overnight.
  • Note:
  • Use with whatever you like,but will be using the syrup and cherries in the "Muddle Maraschino" a drink .
