This is a quick tomato sauce with a lovely flavor; serve over linguine, with meat balls.

Ingredients
  • Bunch of fresh basil
  • 28 oz can of Italian Plum tomatoes
  • 5 large cloves of garlic minced
  • 1/3 cup olive oil
  • pepper: cayenne if you like spicy, freshly ground black to taste
  • 1 tsp salt

Directions
  1. Use only the leaves of the basil, rinse in cold water and pat dry then chop roughly - about 1/2 cup
  2. Place all ingrediants into a large saucepan and cook over medium -high heat for about 30 minutes
  3. Adjust for taste with salt and pepper
  4. Serve over linguine or use to saute meatballs

This is the way I make mine.. I use it for pizza, and lots of other things too. And your right, it has to be the Italian tomatoes.
High 5! Can't believe people missed this one. Going to put it in the I tried it group.


Yes! I totally agree! Plum tomatoes are perfect for making a really good tomato sauce! The recipe I use is similar to this except I add shallots and a little sugar!
