a recipe from my great-great grandma from germany. soft, spicy molasses cookie. these don't last long at our house and are quick & easy to make.

Ingredients
  • 1 c Molasses
  • 1/2 c Shortening
  • 1 Egg
  • 3 Tbls hot Water
  • 1 tsp Soda
  • 2 c Flour
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 1/2 tsp Cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp Cloves
  • 1/2 tsp Ginger
  • 1/2 tsp Nutmeg
  • Sugar to sprinkle

Directions
  1. Heat oven to 400. Grease cookie sheets.
  2. Mix all ingredients.
  3. Drop by teaspoon & sprinkle with sugar.
  4. Note: Cookies will spread normally while cooking.
  5. Bake 8 - 10 minutes.
  6. Important: Let cookies cool on cookie sheet for a few moments before removing to wire rack to finish cooling to prevent cookies from falling apart.
