My Favorite Red Velvet Cake

- 3 tbsp. cocoa shopping list
- 2 oz. red food coloring shopping list
- 2 eggs shopping list
- 1 1/2 cup sugar shopping list
- 1/2 cup vegetable shorting shopping list
- 1 cup buttermilk shopping list
- 2 1/2 cup all purpose flour (sifted) shopping list
- 1 tsp. salt shopping list
- 1 tsp. vanilla shopping list
- 1 tbsp. vinegar shopping list
- 1 tbsp. baking soda shopping list
- For Cream Icing: 1 stick butter (softened) shopping list
- 1/2 cup vegetable shorting shopping list
- 1 cup confection sugar shopping list
- 3 tbsp. flour shopping list
- 2/3 cup milk (at room temp.) shopping list
- 1 tsp. almond flavoring shopping list
How to make it
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F., Grease and lightly flour 3 -8 inch layer pans.
- In a small bowl, mix 3 tbsp. cocoa and red food coloring into a paste, set aside
- In a lrg bowl,use a mixer to cream together 1/2 c. vegetable shorting and 1 1/2 c. sugar.
- Continue beating, Add coloring paste and 2 eggs, beat well.
- Add 1 c. buttermilk, 2 1/2 c. flour (sifted), 1 tsp. vanilla, 1 tsp. salt and beat well.
- Stir in by spoon 1 Tbsp. vinegar blend well.
- Add 1 tbsp. baking soda, mix well, and bake for 30-35 min.
- Mean while: cream with a mixer 1 stick butter (softened), 1/2 c. vegetable shorting, 1 c. confection sugar , and 3 tbsp. flour (1 at a time).
- Add 2/3 c. milk 1 tsp. almond flavoring, Beat well.
- Let cakes cool on a rack and ice.
