Marinara Sauce

- 1 tbsp. olive oil shopping list
- 1 sm. onion, chopped shopping list
- 2 cloves garlic, crushed with press shopping list
- 2 tbsp. tomato paste shopping list
- 1 can (28 oz,) whole tomatoes in juice shopping list
- salt and pepper shopping list
- 1/3cup loosely packed fresh basil, chopped shopping list
How to make it
- In 4-quart saucepan, heat oil over medium heat until hot.Add onion and cook until tender, about 10 to 12 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Stir in garlic and tomato paste; cook 1 minute.Stir in tomatoes with their juice, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper; heat to boiling over high heat, breaking up tomatoes with back of spoon.Reduce heat to medium and cook, stirring occasionally, 15 minutes.Stir in basil.If not using right away, transfer to a container with tight-fitting lid and refrigerate up to 3 days or cool 30 minutes and freeze up to 3 months.Makes enough to coat 1 pound cooked pasta.
