Spicy Oven Fried Onion Recipe
Variation of the Onion Blossoms you get in restaurants.Baked in the oven instead of deep fried. First.

Ingredients
  • 1 large sweet onion (about 1 lb)
  • 1/2 c buttermilk
  • 1/2 tsp chipolte chili powder
  • 3 c cheese-flavored snack crackers,like Cheez-It
  • 1-1/2 tsp Creole seasoning
  • 1/2 c mayonnaise
  • 2 Tbs chili sauce,like Heinz

Directions
  1. Heat oven to 5oo degrees. Peel nion,leaving root end tact. Using sharp knife,cut onion through root into 8 wedges
  2. In large bowl,whisktogether buttermilk and chipolte powder until blended. Place onion wedges in buttermilk mixture, Turn to coat evenly.
  3. In food processor,cimbine cheese crackers and creole seasoning,pulse 10 times or till fine crumbs form.Transfer crumbs to pie plate. Remove onion from buttermilk mixture,letting buttermilk drip in bowl. Place wedges in crumb mixture. Gently press crum mixture between onion petal to coat thoroughly.
  4. Coat wire rack with cooking sprat,place on baking sheet.
  5. Arrange onion wedges on wire rack. Coat onions with cooking spray. Bake 10 mins. Reduce oven temp to 400. Bake 30 mins more or till onions are golden brown and crisp,,. In bowl,combine mayonnaise and chili sauce,serve with onion wedges.
