Does anyone have one? I just got a 3-slot one for my birthday. It came with chives, basil, and rosemary and I started it yesterday. I'm hoping that I use the fresh herbs enough to get good use out of it. I think when winter comes around, I'll switch over to tomatoes.

If you have one, what do you think of it?

I have a 3 slot one as well and love mine. It came with basil, thyme, and chives. The chives fizzled out, and I can't keep up with the basil. I'm probably cutting it back every week. The thyme is doing very well also. I , too was wondering about tomatoes.

It would be fantastic during the winter months to grow tomatoes. I can't stand those tasteless tomatoes they sell for an arm and a leg in the grocery stores at that time of year.

I'm excited! Glad to know the basil grows so well. It will be nice to have fresh basil for when I start making spaghetti sauce from our garden tomatoes this summer.

From what I read, in the 3 slot, you only plant 1 tomato plant and plug the other two slots. It looks like it's around $10 for a cherry tomato plant. If it produces well, it would be great in winter.

I'm also interested in lettuce. I've heard it does quite well too.

I've always wanted an aerogarden, but I've never worked up the nerve to buy one. Do you always have to buy their seed packs, or can you use your own seeds too?

You can buy "empty" pods to start your own seeds. Since it is a dirt-less growing environment, I'm not sure how you could start them on your own without the empty pod kit. Aerogarden's website has a ton of options.

I "planted" it Sunday night and two of the 3 pods have already sprouted nicely, and the 3rd is almost through as well. It is brainlessly simple to use!

Dixiesmom - I did get thyme instead of rosemary. That must be their base herb pack.

It sure doesn't take long for the seeds to germinate. Once your plants get to a good size check the water level frequently. I seem to be topping mine up every few days now.

And yes, I think you can only use their kits. However it is a hydroponic gardening system. So if you or someone else is a bit handy, you could make your own "gro op", lol, and use your own seeds.

I am a bit skeptical about the tomato kits though. The light only raises so high, so the plants would be quite small for tomatoes and the yield ??

Any hoo, it is exciting to watch the herbs grow and nice to have fresh during the winter months.

HI! I bought an aerogarden a couple months ago but I put it away til the fall. We have a short growing season in Michigan so until then I like to do my herbs on the deck in pots.
Looking forward to learning to use it in a few months. Hope you post some more info...
and success stories. Have a great day!
