I've found recently that ground turkey is much cheaper than ground beef, and is a great substitute for beef in recipes. Perdue is always $1.99 per pound, and Shady Brook Farms is also always on sale.

In fact, we're having our favorite meatloaf tonight made with ground turkey. We have turkey burgers quite often, and use it in tacos, for meatballs, just anywhere we'd normally use ground beef.

Turkey may be cheaper but I gotta have my ground beef. We eat it a lot. We are usually always close broke but even when we aren't I still buy ground beef a lot. I usually buy at least 16 pounds a month. There is a local home town grocery store here that has a truck load meat sale once a month and we can get lean ground beef for .99 cents a pound in a 16 pound bag.

Truthfully I substitute the ground chuck in a roll stuff. I can't taste the difference in finished products. It's much cheaper. Ive tried the turkey once but it seemed awfully dry and spongy to me. I subbed it in spaghetti. It was years ago and could have been either my technique or the brand, though. I havent' see ground turkey cheaper than beef in this area, I don't believe.
