    Date Squares
Oh my these squares are addictive. LOL I have had 3 small squares in the last 1/2 hour. Reminds me of the ones that my DMIL had always made. Thank you Manella for another fantastic recipe.

Oh yum! They bring back so many memories, my Mom always makes them around the holidays too.
I've never made them myself, I should do that this year! :)
Thanks for reminding me of this recipe Nadine! :)

I imagine the squares are nice and sweet. I used some dates a few years back to make some sugar plums for a christmas party.

These sound so good! I love date everything. I saved the recipe when Manella published it. Glad to know that it's as delicious as it sounds. I have lots of dates on the shelf so I will have to make this soon.

Yum!! They remind me of the one's my Mom always makes at Christmas time. I made an error and thought it said 2-1/2 cups of oats instead of 1-1/2. I had already mixed in the sugar and flour when I noticed my mistake! So I added a full cup of vegan butter to the topping to make up the difference. It worked out in the end! I also added a pinch of cinnamon to the topping, just like my Mom does. I added a photo to the recipe :)

I phoned my Mom to ask her for her recipe so I could compare, and she didn't know what I was talking about. Then she said "oh, you mean matrimonial cake" I forgot she called them that! She said she liked to call it matrimonial cake because she didn't always use dates. Sometimes the dates were hard to find or too expensive so she used raisons and apple sauce, or dates mixed with prunes and other dried fruit. :)

Hi Cosmicmother great catch and tweak. Love the idea of cinnamon on the top. Will have to try that.

Your picture makes me want one right now :) I gotta make these! Sam's carries Medjool dates (my favorite) now for really cheap, so I don't feel so guilty buying them all the time!
