    **July Recipe Challenge--Sandwiches**

Let the controversy begin! Me--I’ve never had a patty melt. Husband--Yes, you have. Me--No, I haven’t! Husband--Yes! You have! We did agreed on one thing. We’ve never had a patty melt on rye bread before. The rye bread was so good! It’s my understanding that mushrooms and bacon are not traditional, but it sure was good. The only thing I’d recommend is to use a thick slice or even two slices of Swiss cheese. I didn’t think it was cheesy enough. Hubby said it was the best patty melt he’s ever had. I still maintain this is the first time I’ve ever had one. lol!

That looks really fun DIZ3. I never had a patty melt, nor even heard of such a thing until I joined GR. Hubby and I really enjoyed it and I should really shortlist it again as it`s a quick, easy meal. Great photo!

Slowly saute those onions down to a golden brown for greater flavor. Patty Melts are wonderful.

Hello Eastcoaster! Thank you! It's nice to know there is some lactose free cheese available. I was wondering if you can have cheese made with sheep's milk like Pecorino. I think you would enjoy it.

Hey, Chuckieb! Thank you! I was surprised to find several Patty Melt recipes on this site. I never knew a true patty melt was served on rye bread. Patty melts are popular around here, but served on white bread or Texas toast. Hubby said the rye bread really makes a difference. I'll take his word for it.

Hi, Pointsevenout! I thought maybe the onions should be cooked on a lower heat and slightly caramelized. Agree, it's a yummy sandwich. One that I will make again.
