    ~Made for March 2017 Irish Recipe Challenge~

We loved this!! Used a Guiness IPA, it was the only type of Irish beer I could find, but it worked well and lended a nice flavor. I cooked the stew the whole time on the stove top, which worked out ok, except for the fact that I should have known to wait until the last 30 minutes to put in the potatoes, but I didn't and put them in at the beginning. Because of that they kind of melted away lol, but that's okay, it's almost like we had stirred mashed potatoes into the stew! Oh I added carrots too :) Served with Irish Soda Bread/saved Yum!!

Nice photo! Looking at the directions, they say to add the potatoes at the beginning with the rest of the vegetables, so you did that right. Maybe they were cut too small and broke down during cooking?? Carrots are a great addition to any stew.

That looks great Michelle! I'm not a big fan of stew but hubby is and I'm a little leery of beer in my food but hubby would give a nod of approval. Gonna book mark this and give it a whirl. It does sound and look good. :)
I agree with Bakerme. The original poster's photo shows whole potatoes and the recipe says she used new potatoes scrubbed, so I guess they just held together better. Carrots would be a nice addition. Very festive meal!

Thanks! I think cooking on the stove top it would be hotter? Maybe if I had done it in the oven the potatoes would have held together better? Who knows, I still don't know all the science to cooking lol.

Great photo, Mommyluvs2cook! A hearty looking stew. I guess you made up for the peas by adding carrots. :)

Hi Ml2c what a great pic. LOL I would not be adding peas either as I have to many whom do not enjoy them. As for the tatters I have a couple of recipes that I just double checked. Other than browning the meat, onions you add the tatters just as you put it into the oven for the 2 hours. This is going on my list to try sometime.
