    Self Rising Flour

This is a very easy recipe to pull together. I used it on the cake I was making and it worked great.

I've made my own self rising flour before, it's really handy to have a recipe around like this, especially if your like me and never have self rising flour around :)

Hi Ml2c this is actually the first time I have used a recipe with self-rising flour. I am so happy that it worked that I am going to play with it. Hope to use it in place of a couple of cake mix recipes that I have done.

This could come in handy! Looks easy to adjust so you can make large or small batches depending on what you need.

I bought a bag of King Arthur self-rising flour once and ended up throwing most of it away. I used it twice - once in my tried and true biscuits recipe and once in my pancake recipe - and both recipes were such flops that I went back to measuring out the flour and leaveners separately. It only takes an extra minute, and is worth the better result for me. I don't know if I did something wrong or what :p

Hi DIZ3 I think that you could do smaller batches for sure.

Hi Bakerme. I have never picked up self-rising flour. To me it was not worth the price. But this is easy to pull together.

In storing self-rising flour or baking powder or baking soda, one needs a hermetically sealed container that the air can be pumped from. Humidity in the air is the nemesis of leaveners. It will deactivate the leaveners causing a flopped recipe.

One would think that the antecedent are all dry ingredients and should be good for, well, forever. Such is not the case. If interested, do a split recipe of biscuits using old ingredients and fresh ingredients. The proof (excuse the pun) is in the seeing.

I know it's wasteful, but I never keep my baking soda, baking powder, or yeast until their expiration dates before I pitch them; usually a month or so before the dates. They're cheap enough to buy that I can easily replace them and not have to worry about them working when I'm baking.

Great info Points. I have never stored my soda or powder that way. so far knock on wood they have worked fine.

Bakerme I never checked my expiry dates on those product maybe I should but I think I have used them up before the dates. Though some years if I have any left in the cupboard I toss and get fresh product. when the cooler weather comes in.

Nadine, I'm just anal about checking the expiration dates on everything. When I see a good sale at the store, my first thought is that it must be because the product has either expired or is ready to expire and I immediately check the date - haha!
