Another Orange Ice Cream

Recipe by Cheffiona: Another Orange Ice Cream
Pre-freeze taste test is great. Have no doubt this will be good when frozen.
Used fresh orange zest. Author used dried. Maybe I should have tripled the fresh zest to come up to the dry zest amount. We'll see.
I love orange ice cream anyhow.
    Ran oranges through a juicer.
Now I know why store bought orange juice has that sharp tang to it. I think they juice the oranges, pith skin and all. My orange juice was so sweet and had a mellow finish, no tang at all.

I'm not much for sweets and I don't eat much ice cream, but this is the first time I've ever wished I had an ice cream maker! For some reason, that recipe looks so good to me! I want an post-freeze report, pso! :) I'll have to check to see how much ice cream makers are. Maybe one would come in handy.

Electric, somewhere around $50. Hand crank is somewhat cheaper but larger.

Yes, I checked them out at amazon.com. 1.5 qt. (my size) for $45 and free shipping! Sounds like a deal. I wonder if it would make me eat more ice cream though. That I don't need! :)

I love orange ice cream. Used to make myself Orange Milkshakes when I got home from school when I was a kid. DEELICIOUS!
I used to have a Donvier Ice Cream Maker. I loved it. You kept the tub in the freezer and then just pulled it out and put it in the machine when you were ready to make ice cream.
Ice cream is good for the soul. :)

I'd rather put it in my mouth. My feet are cold enough.

OK, OK............I tasted it. Has a nice orange flavor.
It sets up a little harder than a good rich ice cream. Guess it's because of the fluid to cream ratio. And it's not a custard type ice cream. Gave the rest of the container to mother.
If I make this again I think I'll squeeze 4 cups of juice and simmer it down to 2 cups of juice to try to concentrate the orange flavor even more. Might even incorporate a couple/four egg yolks to make a rich custard.

Kinda sounds like a harder sherbert, maybe? Sounds tasty though.
Your idea of frozen concentrate in French vanilla is interesting, MrP. That sounds pretty good, too!
