Yes, now you can see why the parsley was left alone last night. :) I just love those guys. They make a really neat noise, too. And I can tell when they see a cat by the noise they make! :D

.Frankie, I was going to ask if you had a pic but thought I was being a bit impolite. They are absolutely gorgeous and what a great pic! You should have that one framed really. Honestly, it looks like a National Geographic photo! Bravo and thanks so much for sharing:-) I just can't imagine how delightful it is to see them up so close.

Oh, gosh, thanks so much but I didn't take the picture. I should have said that. I got it off the internet. It was taken by a man in San Francisco at Presido Park. Sorry! I'll have to see if I can get a picture of a group of them in my yard. I see them so often I've never taken a picture!

Frankie, It doesn't matter who took it to me. It is just stunning and the fact you get so many of them to see! Also I did not know quails were California' State bird. See you learn something new in here everyday:-)

Made me smile. Thank you. We have an oil painting of a group of quail, under an oak tree taking a dirt bath. Favorite bird of ours as well.

    I'm glad, Otterpond. :)
I'll have to work on that, Chuckie. They are kinda "ungrouped" right now as its nesting time. They pair up during this time of year and I see one or two pair at a time. Not the 30 or so I can get under the feeders all at one time.
One of the neatest things I saw them do: a father quail brought four babies into my yard. He went to the seed on the ground and started scratching and pecking. The babies followed him to the seed and started doing the same.
After eating, he then went to the dish of water and took a drink. The babies followed him up to the dish and then they drank also.
Dad then walked to my deck and found a sunny spot and started cleaning his feathers. Kids followed, jumped up on the deck and then all four proceeded to clean their feathers as well. It was pretty clear that Dad was teaching the kids how to be respectable quail and they were doing a marvelous job of learning. :)

LOVE the pic, Frankieanne! And the story is just awesome! And who'da thunk it would be the daddy bird doing all that teaching? I love watching nature take it's course that way. Thank you for sharing!

The Quail habits almost sound like the Wild Turkeys that I get here in my yard. I have had up to 40 in the winter time but this time of year I only see a couple. The ladies are all in the middle of the forest making nests for hatching their eggs. How awesome to get to see the Quails do 'their thing'. I WANT QUAIL ON MY DECK!!!!!! Respectable or not! :)

The quail gals are lucky, sparow, as the guys share equally in the parenting chores. :)
Well, Chuckie, next time I have some non-respectable quail in my yard I'll send them up your way! :-D
