Caramelized Squash

Picked the first acorn squash from the garden! Tried Caramelized Squash from "Chefmeow" because I liked the idea of using nutmeg. While the recipe is good, it could use an adjustment.

" This recipe just has Fall written all over it. It’s an old recipe and one that requires little thought. Just sprinkle with brown sugar, butter, and pepper and toss in the oven. What I liked about this recipe is that it called for nutmeg instead of pepper, making it more like a dessert. What I didn’t like was the addition of water in the well of the squash. The water never reduced down during cooking to make a heavy syrup as one would expect from the title “caramelized.” I think you will find that you can get a better result if you just use brown sugar and butter. The two alone come together to make a sticky syrup and will make the acorn squash taste like candy. "

Lucky you to have fresh squash from the garden DIZ3:) I wouldn't add water in the well of the squash either..I have added just a bit in the baking dish though..maybe that's what Chefmeow meant? Hard to tell the way the recipe is written:) Really great pic! Thanks for adding your review to IMI!!!

I never thought about adding water to the pan. lol! I even questioned that step and looked back at the ingredient list and the other photo. I've always just put them in a baking dish and in the oven they go. When you've made something the same way for so long, it's hard to think outside the box.

Oh no, I can see how that got confused thought with the water! That should really be specified in the directions. At least it wasn't a major mistake, just a little water :) That is one great picture though!
