Cherry Bars

    Cherry Bars by: Notyourmomma

I made these Dec.29th/2015. And I forgot to put them in IMI!

These are scrumptious! And very easy to make. I've never made anything like it before, the closest thing was a cherry kringle I made eons ago. I adore cherry pie filling, it's the only fruit filling I would ever buy in can. I think this will be on my list every time a cherry pie craving hit's me ;) The whole family devoured it too, we were fighting over the last piece!

I was only able to snap this one photo late at night with the family hovering over ready to grab them, lol ;)

Wow, those look super good, Cosmicmom! I love cherry pie, so am sure I'd like these, too. I'm with you in that cherry pie filling is the only pie filling I'll buy in a can (Wilderness brand with the extra fruit). Only once did I try picking the cherries, pitting them by hand, and making my own pie filling and you know what? It tasted like the canned stuff! That was a LOT of work to have it taste like the canned! The good news was, I made great pie filling, but the bad news was it took me all afternoon :p

Yes, that was my experience with cherry pie filling too! Not worth the effort if the end result is the same. ;) I could eat the filling right out of the can with a spoon, love it! :)

Great photo! Just looking at them gives me a sweet tooth. I agree, cherry pie filling is one of the few things I will buy in a can, but I also have a good homemade pie filling recipe that I use when I can find fresh or frozen sour cherries. Don't know if you saw, but I picked this recipe out of your box the other day when were we game playing on The Refugees. Can't wait to try it someday.

    Thanks everyone!
Diz. I use to buy the frozen sour cherries to use for my Black Forest cake, but they are getting harder to find now a days.

Frankie, that's what I get for trying to be Susie Homemaker - haha! If you ever thought you might like to try making cherry pie filling from scratch, save yourself the trouble and just buy a good brand in the can! :)

Made these today and they are FANTASTIC!!! My review ... "Fantastic!! Wonderful and easy dessert to make. I had a feeling it would be good and it was confirmed when my "non-eating" dessert DH raved about it and finished what was on his plate. I did "tweek" it a bit. I cut the recipe in half and baked it in an 8x8 square pan. I did however use the entire can of cherry pie filling (I used Comstock brand and the one with 20% more cherries). I did not use BP because I wanted a crust more shortbread like and I did reduce the sugar to 1/2 cup for half the recipe. It was really really really good!"
