Gaga's gumbo by Gagagrits

This was another successful recipe. Full of flavor, hearty and filling. Added a picture under her main one. Came out thick enough for me without any cornstarch.

I've never had gumbo, but it sounds like something I would love! I've had jambalaya and just loved it! So if its anything like that then I know its good!

Do you have to use file' powder? What does okra taste like? I know its not in this, but its in a lot of southern recipes.

I don't think you have to use file powder, and I hate okra, because it's so slimy. Well, it tastes a little bit like zucchini, but the one that is having a bad cold! LOL. It did remind me a lot of jambalaya, my hubby even asked me why I didn't add any rice to that "jambalaya" I made.

You know, I shouldn't talk bad about okra, a lot of people adore it. Nobody in my family, though. I know everyone has different tastes and I've been trying to eat okra for years, just can't develope a taste for it.

Since me and you seem to have similar taste...then I probably wouldn't like it either!

Thanks...its good to know that I can make gumbo without the file' powder or okra! I'll have to try it someday...I'm really getting into southern cooking! I'm just trying to stay away from the fried stuff for awhile!
