Grilled Sausage Sandwiches With Caramelized Onions And Gruyere Cheese

This is a very good sandwich. I grilled smoked sausage with an indoor grill/panini press while I caramelized the onions. I also used a Torta roll since that was all I had for a roll. Gruyere cheese is so good with this. Thanks Darbar for an excellent sandwich.

Nice pic. Hmmm...don't think I've ever had a "Torta" roll. Will have to check the bakeries around here and see what that is...

I soooo love that sandwich. I have made it more than once. I love your picture!
You have a panini press now? Wow! You're branching out, Mr. P. I would have expected you to use a brick or a sledge hammer or something construction-y like. :-P

Oh I still use stuff like that. I still have not crossed that line of buying "pot holders". My retired welding gloves still work. Especially to remove the hot grill plates from the press. I also use the sledge hammer more than the meat mallet I purchased. Its so much quicker. I just use more self control now. A brick? Hmm. I'll have to think about that.

I started to try and use it for this (make this a panini sandwich) but I was afraid that all stuff would ooze out and chickened out. So I just used it to grill the roll after the sausage was done. I have to practice with it more. It tried a grilled cheese with it and there was cheese ALL OVER. Left hardly any in the sandwich. Maybe I pressed it down to hard?????

GK, as for the Torta roll. I had never heard of them before. I ended up with them as a result of shopping while hungry. They do make great sandwiches though and will get more if I see them again. This was my last of the bunch

Yummy! I love all those ingredients! What kind of press do you have? Regardless you don't need to press down hard, especially with the giant all in one press plug in machine. My MIL has one of those and actually just closes the top, presses SLIGHTLY and that's it. She always seems to get great grill lines. I have the cast iron grill pan with the hand held press which is actually great because you can see if you press too hard cause you can see if the stuff is coming out! It doesn't matter though, you'll get used to it! Great looking sandwich and I do see torta rolls every once in a while at the store. I'll check next time I go!

Thx, ML2C. Yeh, I have to play with it more. It does give great grill linea. Its by GE http://www.walmart.com/ip/GE-4-in-1-Grill-Griddle/14895655
I picked it up after reading how good the George Foreman grill was -health wise - for hamburgers and use it mainly for those and single serving meals.

I use my GF grill as a panini press. The lid isn't very heavy so I just press down on it for a bit. You even get those neat-o grill marks on your sandwiches with it. :)
