    Healthy Fried Cabbage
    by anitagae

I enjoy fried cabbage and have made it many times, but never used nutmeg as a seasoning. With spinach, yes, but cabbage was a new experience for me. It was very good as just a subtle flavor, but be careful not to add too much or I think it would overpower the other flavors.

The cook time for me was a bit longer than the times given in the recipe but I guess that's just personal preference as to how much you want the cabbage cooked. I used apple cider vinegar although balsamic would work well too and add a little extra color to the dish.

I served this as a side to my Meatloaf With Spiced Maple Ketchup leftovers.

I've never had fried cabbage! In fact, I don't think I've ever had hot cabbage. I've always must made cole slaw with it. Oh. Cabbage leaf rolls. I've made those a couple of times. But, I sure never had it fried!

Welll...Frankieanne I think it's time you gave it a try. A lot of recipes for fried cabbage use bacon and you fry the cabbage in the bacon drippings. But then it wouldn't be "healthy." :)

Thats a pretty pic GK. The only hot cabbage I have had is corned beef and cabbage. My dad used to make it. I have not had it in decades. Other then that, only coleslaw.

And you still have some of DT's meatloaf left????? I need to find some Bison. I want to make it with that...

I love fried cabbage! And yes I sometimes saute mine in the bacon dripping, I know not healthy but SO GOOD! The nutmeg does sound interesting in this, never tried that!

Thank you all for your comments. I think frying the cabbage makes it SWEETER than if you eat it as cole slaw. Sometimes I also add a little sour cream to make it creamy fried cabbage. Ever tried that ml2c?

yes, mr p, I had leftover meatloaf. There's a reason my name's not PIGGY... :P

No I have not tried it that way but it sounds really good! I agree that cooking cabbage makes it sweeter.
