Hungarian Style Goulash - (Don's)

  • Karen_B 7 years ago
I made this recipe last week, sorry to only just now reviewing it! It was wonderful! It looks like a lot of steps, but really it's not. Once you prepare everything (cut up your meat and veggies, etc), it really goes together quickly. Flavor is outstanding!! I only had Hungarian paprika at home so I did substitute that, but everything else I made as instructed - so glad I tried this! Will definitely be making it again! Thanks Don!

Oh yum, that looks good! I can't do bilingual math, so don't know how to convert the metric meaurements.

Yum! Just how my Dad makes it, but he uses bacon for the pancetta. :)

Bakerme, Don listed the oz's and pounds beside the gr/ml/kg in his recipe. I'm forced to convert recipes all the time since things in Canada are sold by the kg,ml or gr. When I write out my recipes here, I add the US standard measurements, I just look up the equiv. online--easy enough. Funny, since the rest of the world is Metric! lol ;)

That's a nice list of ingredients! Seems like it would be good. What is braising steak? What cut is that?

I think braising steak is a cut of steak with reduced amounts of fat content.

Googled it and found it is chuck, skirt, leg (never heard of that) and flank.

Cosmicmom, I measure ingredients by volume, so the weights listed still confuse me. I know a lot of people weigh their ingredients, but I stick to the old fashioned way and use measuring cups and spoons. Just me! :)

You can always Google it, Bakerme. I Googled "how much is one ounce of butter" and found out in a split second it is two tablespoons. :)

Bakerme, I have a conversion table that hangs on my refrigerator. It's very easy to follow and converts units of measure to weights and smaller units of measure. I refer to it all of the time.

    One line for example says:
    1/2 cup = 4 oz or 8 Tbsp or 24 Tsp or 118 mL

I didn't have skirt steak, I actually used a sirloin steak and it worked well!
