Meatier Bite Mushroom Stroganoff

Recipe by Gkwillow: Meatier Bite Mushroom Stroganoff
A little light on the deep stroganoff flavor but I wouldn't shake a rolling pin at it.
No picture. Mixed it all up together with the egg noodles.
Quick and easy. I like the mushroom chunks.
    I miss my meat.

Points, I find your expressions amusing... :)

I guess you mean that you didn't hate it enough to threaten it (or me!) with a rolling pin but probably wouldn't make it again? :) Agreed. It's not the same as stroganoff with meat and I probably would miss meat if I couldn't have it - but in my book meatless is OK too.

Thanks for trying it (anyway) :)

Yes I could make it again. Would probably braise up some stew meat and dump it in there. I had planned to do that but it was an item forgottenly (I know that's not a word) left at the store last night.

Hehehe! "I wouldn't shake a stick at it", is the proper phrasing. It refers to the taunting of an animal. Much like dragging a stick along a chain-link fence to irritate a bug eyed saliva drooling defensive dog protecting it's property.

No taunt intended here. Just amended the metaphor to include cooking terms. Thought it was appropriate. Trying to say there is something missing. Could be just the meat.

    I am a dedicated omnivore.

Point taken. (Pun intended!) I'm relieved to know that I don't need to cower in fear that you're coming after me with that rolling pin of yours! :)

I plan on trying this as a side to Wynnebaer's London Broil With Peppercorn And Garlic Marinade Is there anything you would have done differenty besides adding meat?

Hard to say 'till the meat goes in. Don't be scared of the salt shaker. Was thinking maybe just a little cayenne or red pepper flakes but not too much to take away from the savory stroganoff flavor.

Maybe if you used portobello or some other type of mushroom instead of white it might add to the flavor???

I was entertaining that idea too. It might add a pseudo meat consistency if you add some beef broth granules to them in the onion/'shroom saute.

I like portobellos and think I will try it with those. Plus I want to try those pizzas out of them too

I made this for lunch today and thought it was great! The flavor, for me, was very good and I did not miss the meat, but I must admit I am one of those people that can go vegetarian, not counting bacon ;) The pasta I used was called Italian Herb Linguini. I would make this again any day! Posted a pic on the recipe.

I made this the other night. I used portobellos as suggested. This was great. I like the large chucks of mushroom. I have never had a meatless Stroganoff before, but I didnt crave meat since I had this London Broil With Peppercorn And Garlic Marinade , by Wyneebaer, along side. Thanks for the heads up PSO and G reat recipe GK Posted pics
