Morninlite's Rootbeer Pulled Pork

  • mrpiggy 11 years ago
I have been wanting to try pulled pork for a while now and alos rootbeer. This came out VERY tender and juicy. Took forever to shred the stuff..... I olny had a 2lb pork roast. I dont know if that was too small. The recipe doesn't say what size. This roast had a lot of rootbeer flavor. Too much for my taste by itself. But with BBQ sauce it was excellent. I didnt have onion rolls. Used small sourdough ones then added a slice of onion and a handful of spinach. These were good. I dont know if I will try rootbeer if I make it again

Root beer has such a strong, distinct flavor I can see why it came through....next time use a bigger roast with a coke, or beer :) They look really good though! Now that's a LOT of onion, like it much? ;) Wonder why the recipe picture is of a family swimming lol!

Another nebulous recipe that leaves way too much room for error.

Well, Mrs Smarty Pants, it just so happens that I do like onion.: P I didnt have to worry about onion breath when I had these, so there was no need to hold back. Besides I dont hold back often when it comes to eating : )

Nothing on your part MrP, it's the recipe as written that is problematic. Size of roast, cut of roast, amount of seasonings; are all important in any of the recipes that I make. If you want to embellish on top of that, it's your turn to do so. And you found out that adding Bbq sauce made the dish more palatable for you.
The last crock pot pulled pork recipe I made called for a 5-6lb roast to be done in 8 hours on LO. So a 2lb roast in your crock could have been larger if you wanted.

Maybe had the roast been 5lb with a can of soda the rootbeer would not have been so overpowering. Ya think the rootbeer made it so tender and juicy? I thought it would be dry. Especially since there was so little fat on this roast

On a Boston butt, leave the fat cap on. Once done pull it off. Can't say about the rootbeer.
