Peach Marmalade

    Recipe: Peach Marmalade
    By: NadineM
    Date: 9/4/16

Candy in a jar! Very peachy, also orangey, and a little cherry-ish! I’m not an orange marmalade fan, but as soon as I saw this recipe I knew it was meant for me. It is a very well written recipe for anyone new to making jam or jelly. I followed it exactly and it turned out perfect. I used very ripe, juicy peaches and could have let it cook an additional 10 – 15 minutes, but its fine. Spreads easily! I love the addition of the maraschino cherries. I used 3/4c and it’s really sweet. Next time I will taste the peaches first and if they are as sweet as the ones I used, I will reduce to just a 1/2c of cherries.

All total, it made 7 ½ pints of jam that I put in both pint sized jars and jelly jars. Far more jam than hubby and I can eat in the coming months. I sat one jar aside for immediate consumption and canned the rest. To do that, I tightened the lids down immediately and processed for 10 min. in a boiling water bath to seal the lids. Well, we’ve already opened one of those jars and I’m happy to report that it did not affect flavor or consistency of the jam. Still perfect!

That looks fantastic, DIZ! I haven't made peach jam for ages and, like you, ended up with way more than we could eat. They made good Christmas presents with some homebaked goodies ;)

I remember many years ago getting 6 little jars of assorted homemade jams from a co-worker. My first thought was "oh no, jam" ... after opening one and discovering it was amazingly good and because the jar was small it was just enough. It was so much fun going thru all the flavors and because they were homemade they were superior to anything store bought. To this day it was one of THE BEST GIFT I ever received and probably the most remembered.

Thank you, everyone! They would be perfect for a Christmas gift! I'll give a jar or two to my sister since she gave me the peaches. At the rate we are going through these, it won't last long! Will have to make several batches next year.

LindaLMT, we don't eat a lot of jam either. I think that's about to change now that I've discovered the world of homemade jams! Hubby is coming up with all kinds of ideas. The other day he went and picked a bunch of elderberries and said, "do you think you can make jam out of these?" Maybe if I get good at it, I can put together a sample pack for Christmas. Great idea!

Oh wow. I love marmalade! And I've never had peach marmalade. Thank you for the tip on the cherries. I don't really care for those. They seem "fake" to me. Beautiful pictures. It looks delicious!
What kind of oranges did you use? "Smooth skinned" isn't enough information for me. :-D

Hey, Frankieanne! If you like peanut butter and orange marmalade sandwiches, you will love this! You have my husband hooked! I just used 2 small naval oranges as that's all the stores have right now. I think smooth skinned do not have a thick rind. Not sure, about that. The maraschino cherries give this a wonderful flavor, but you could certainly reduce them to suit your taste or even omit them. When I looked in my canning book on how to preserve jams, I found a peach marmalade recipe. It's written just like this recipe, but doesn't use cherries. Just peaches and oranges. Also, this recipe could easily be reduced if you don't want to make a large batch.

Thank you, Ellie1! Grandma's are the best! Sometimes it's the little things that can bring back such fond memories. You'll have to break out the marmalade. I never cared for it either, but this recipe has made me a fan.

Oooh, one of my favorite drinks is a Peach-Orange Bellini! I bet that marmalade tastes similar. One of our favorite herbal teas is peach and orange too (Tetley Bellini) Love that combo, and the cherries sound like the cherry on top of the cocktail, love that! I usually make peach jam, but I'll have to try this combo!

FA, I've made marmalade with Satsuma oranges, Tangerines and even a box of mandarins because the fruit was dry, but the peels were good! :)

Lol @ your husband Diz! Making jam is fun! My favorite is when I pick fresh blackberries, and mix it with blueberries, raspberries and strawberries. My old neighbour use to make elderberry jelly, and my Mother-in-law use to make jam with Salal berries and anything else she could find in the wild, huckleberry, bilberry, black currants etc....Have fun! :)

Cosmicmom, my husband used to bring home jars of huckleberry jam when he'd travel to the Pacific Northwest for business. That stuff is sooo good! I don't think huckleberries grow here in the midwest, at least not in our area, nor can I find any kind of jam made with them :(

Thank you for the orange information. I was wondering if mandarins would do.
I think huckleberries only grow in the Pacific Northwest. My sister used to live in Astoria, Oregon and they were extremely common there.
