Spicy Beef Tacos

    Recipe: Spicy Beef Tacos

I’ve never met a taco that I didn’t like and this was no exception. Easy to make and it had a nice traditional taco flavor without the use of a packaged seasoning mix. Spicy? Not so much. You know if I can eat it, then it’s not spicy. It tasted like a regular taco. Maybe even Taco Belle-ish! I cut the recipe in half and omitted the tomato paste because I didn’t want to open a can just for one tablespoon. Especially, since I was trying to use up an opened can of tomato sauce in the first place. Honestly, it didn’t need the tomato paste. The filling was thick without it and had plenty of tomato taste. For me, less tomato is good.

Those look fantastic. I love Taco Bell tacos - yes, I do! - so a taco that tastes like one would suit me just fine.
    That is a beautiful picture.

    Thank You, Everyone!

Mommyluvs2cook, can't remember where I found the taco holders. Seems like we were traveling and it was a gift shop find. They work o.k., but not great.

I saw spicy in the title and didn't check out your review the first time 'round, but knowing you make such yummy recipes and post awesome photos made me go back to check it out. I can't do spicy food, but these look so good, like "regular" tacos and not spicy at all. DIZ, I have a few recipes that call for just a tablespoon or two of tomato paste and used to avoid making them because I didn't want to open a can for such a small amount. Since I found tomato paste in a tube, like toothpaste, I can squeeze out just the amount needed with no open cans to worry about! I've been buying Amore brand at Wal-Mart and it has a nice long expiration date, so I don't have to worrry about using it up quickly. I think there are a couple of different brands out there if you want to check 'em out.

Bakerme, thanks for sharing. I didn't even know you could get tomato paste in a tube. I'm very much a creature of habit when it comes to grocery shopping. I buy the same old things and never spend time looking to see what's new on the shelves.

You're welcome, DIZ! I can't take credit for finding it on my own, though, because I shop the same way, buying the same ol' stuff until I hear about something new and then wonder why I didn't I think of it myself. I think I first saw it on America's Test Kitchen or in their magazine "Cook's Illustrated". Most of their recipes are too foo-foo for me, but I love their cooking and baking tips and equipment and taste tests.

Made this about a month ago and forgot to review! Great taco meat!! Maybe chili powder to some people is spicy but not to us, even my heat sensitive little guy can handle the stuff. Now, add a pinch of cayenne and that will bring out the heat for sure. Very good regardless, served it up on tostada shells.

Great photo, Mommyluvs2cook! I see we agree about it not being spicy. When I see the word spicy I think "hot," but I suppose it also means heavily seasoned. In any case, I didn't find this to be either. Just a standard taco meat, but a very good one. I filed this in my "potluck" file because I think it would be perfect for a taco bar.
