suggestions

Next week it is my turn to feed Bryan's poker group at the VFW. Need to feed 20 men, for about $30. I'm thinking one dish something will be easiest and cheapest. Alot of dips, etc, is going to run over budget, too.
SO, any suggestions? Right now, my ideas are: a pot of chili and a pot of white chicken chili, with chips, cheese, etc.
OR, a pot of beef stew
OR, a pork roast, pulled and barbqued with fixin's.

This is the first time I have cooked for all but 2 or 3 of these guys, and, of course, I want it to be really good...

BUT...it is poker at the VFW, so, nothing fancy, and something anyone will like...

Any suggestions? Or votes for one of my ideas?

I will be cooking it at home, and then taking it up to the club.

    Spaghetti?

Hi Sparow! I like your ideas. You can make alot of chili with $30. I have a great chicken chili recipe in my list. Its always a big hit at my house. Men love chili! LOL!

I like pulled pork sandwiches with chips. All you need is plate, buns, serving spoon. They eat with their hands. :)

Smoke some meat in the slow cooker and make sandwiches out of it, as jen mentioned, with BBQ sauce. The smoking costs nothing more than the meat(liquid smoke is SO cheap! ;), and making a BBQ sauce is cheap and easy, too...just buy some hearty buns(I LOVE the 'cornmeal' buns)....again as Jen says, I just wanted to add the great flavor that "smoking" adds without adding cost.

    Have fun and good luck!!

I think you have some great suggestions on your own. I used Dugger's rub recipe when I made pulled pork and it was fabulous! Jencathen had a great observation about eating with their hands! All they need is maybe a bag of chips and buns!
