Sweet Potato Gratin, Midgelet

Recipe by Midgelet: Sweet Potato Gratin/saved
Very sweet. Has a savory edge. Lots of soup left over in the bottom of the casserole dish.
I only used 6 medium sweet potatoes. Didn't think 8 potatoes would fit, then the cream mixture and onion on top. Maybe it would have. Tried to get medium potatoes. Maybe the sizing is my fault. I'm sure glad I measured them in the casserole dish first.
Took a while to understand some of the destructions.
Just enough hot cream mixture is supposed to be tossed into the sweet potatoes to coat them, then the sweet potatoes added to the casserole dish.
Couldn't layer the sweet potatoes the standard way by hand but had to smoosh them down into place.
Only added half the potatoes before seasoning them them added the rest.
The destruction line: "Pour on the remaining maple cream until it comes up about 3/4 over potatoes" made me think there should be 3/4" liquid over the top of the potatoes. But after further study it became clear to me that the liquid should only cover 3/4 of the potatoes.
There is only enough liquid to do that anyway.
Bake temp, time, and instructions are spot on.
Maybe the recipe is designed for the potatoes to be swimming in the cream mixture. Think I would prefer a lot less liquid. It would still be nice and sweet.
Made my teeth hurt. Mother scarfed it down.
Had to add Midgelet's name to the title because I've reviewed another Sweet Potato Gratin Recipe and the software kept kicking me into that past review.

That looks like it would be filling. Maple cream. Yum. I wonder what else that would work on. Sounds tasty.
