We have asked that very question and wondered if they really did anything. Thanks for the information. Surprise--dry is better than fresh!

That's cool! I too have wondered if the bay leaf is doing anything! Not sure if I've even seen fresh, but good to know not to buy it!

Yeah, I don't use them because I can't stand the smell of them. Nice to know that it isn't the flavor of them after stewing!

I have only ever used dried bay leaves in spaghetti sauce, stews and soups. Thanks for the interesting link about them, Frankie:) I like the idea the article mentioned about using them in béchamel sauce. I must try that the next time I make it. I don't think I have ever seen them fresh before here either? I do like the comforting warming aroma around the house, when I use them. It must be b/c I grew up with that aroma as a kid:)

I've never seen the fresh before either. In the store anyway. My mom and dad have a huge bay tree on their property! Those leaves smell so strong fresh! I never heard of using them in spaghetti sauce!
And, interestingly enough, my jar of dried bay leaves is from California.

Oh how cool is that Frankie! I would love to see a bay tree some day! Gee Marie, has a Meyer Lemon tree and her parents have all sorts of wonderful trees we don't see here at all. Some day! Sigh!
