Apple cider jello

  • dancegypsy67 16 years ago
A couple of years ago I had this idea that I could make my own jello, instead of making it from a box, and that way I could control the amount of sugar and create a flavor I've not seen in my grocery stores (I was making this for a Thanksgiving dinner). It ended up being rather bland - it was obvious I used too much water and should have used more cider - and it was REALLY firm. I didn't find much guidance with my internet search...does anyone have experience making jello? How much liquid should be added to how much gelatin?

That sounds so good... why not use the amount of cider in place of water called for? If you like the taste of the cider, why add water? Start from there.

I have made jelly from cider, I let it sit in frig until it starts to get a 'snap' to it, not hard, then make the jelly... gives it a tarter taste... Yummy. I added no water to this..

This is a good idea for a group!

I thought about using all cider, but have had no experience with gelatin and was didn't know how the acids in the juice would react to it.

Like my attempts at salt and pepper chicken, Hawaiian style. Can't make it, don't know how and I want to figure it out. The coating of cornstarch was just gummy when I stir fried, it didn't crisp. Was the oil too cool? Who knows?

When the cider comes into season here, around Thanksgiving... I will give it a try. I have to wait, as in Texas, where I am... No apples! Where I was from in Michigan, 2 miles away was an orchard where you could take your apples and they would press them for you... or you could buy it by the gallon... fresh pressed everyday! I do miss that! And the fresh apple pies, and the fritters.... Yummmmmy!

notyourmamma, somewhere I read a recipe for the salt and pepper shrimp... they deep fried them first.... then used wok to put the rest of the seasonings on . I think I have it somewhere, will look it up and if I find will send to you... I think it was from another site or from a newsletter I get... do you really like chinese foods? If you do I will see about sending you a link where you can sign up for a daily recipe... these are REAL chinese.. not American style.. really good and easy.

There are always tons of apple juice and cider on the store shelf but they all have a crisp to sharp taste at the end, save one brand. Martenelli's, by far the best apple juice or cider on the market. It is 100% juice. So mellow and sweet with a very soft finish. Do your own taste test against any other apple product and you will never buy anything else.

linebb, I finally made it to one of the farms in Michigan last year that had spigots to pour our won fresh apple cider....it was yummy! I'm still enjoying the apple cider vinegar I bought there.

Oh, and I'd be interested in the link you mention above.
