super bowl bash

  • sparow64 15 years ago
A few years ago they changed the super bowl date, and now it's always on my birthday weekend! Wanted to have a party that Sat night, but, since superbowl is next day, guess we will have it then. Starting to plan my menu already...anyone else planning a super bowl get together?

Steve usually goes to his buddy's house for the party, but I like to make it special for the girls and I, too. Not that we watch much football, but I always love the halftime show. I've just started to think about what I wanna do......will keep you posted.

I'm not having a "bash" but a small get together with my guys (my dad, my brother and my boyfriend). I'll be making these goodies for them:

-Homemade Soft pretzels with Queso Poblano Sauce and Honey Mustard Sauce
-Fresh Guacamole with Cumin Dusted Tortillas
-Baked Jalapeno Poppers with Cream Cheese and Cheddar
-Sweet Potato Bites with Chipotle Black Bean Spread

So my brother can eat everything, it's a vegetarian menu... Bet you didn't guess that! ;-)

    HELP!!! HELP!!! HELP!!!
Hubby is requesting a recipe from his "bar days" for our Super Bowl/his birthday party Sunday. He's telling me it's hamburg patties in a "gravy/sauce" and would simmer on low in a crockpot all day. The guys at the bar would use tongs to get the hamburgers out to put on a bun and they never fell apart and weren't really messy. I have no clue...ANYBODY?????? Any assistance would be most appreciated!

Luisa - menu sounds great!! Everything is sure to be a hit.

Angle - I don't have a clue what he might be talking about. What comes to mind for me is something like a brown gravy / mushroom sauce, kind of like on a mushroom swiss burger or salisbury steak...I guess if they picked it up with tongs the sauce would drip off?? Sounds good though...let me know if you come up with something.

Still working on my menu. Going to be a finger food, buffet, eat when you want type thing. Trying to find some things that can be room temp, and don't necessarily have to be served right out of the oven.

LOL...I got the jist of it! I'm all for the finger food idea, which is what I was planning until he had mentioned these hamburgs and since it is HIS birthday, I wanted try to come up with something! I think maybe you might be onto something with the salisbury steak idea!!!

Well, guests are beginning to ask what to bring, so, had to make up my mind! LOL Bryan convinced me that my list was waaayyy too long for 12 people, especially when we'll have 4 or 5 more things brought by guests. (Not to mention, that would be too hard on the pocketbook!!). I saw soooo many recipes I wanted to try, but, lots of chores to accomplish this weekend, aside from the party, so, going with the ones I can do in my sleep! Most of the recipes were posted to the group, so here are links.

At the request of several guests, Beef & Bean Nacho Dip (the filling for my burritos, baked in the oven with cheese on top, served with chips and garnishes)

    and:

    Jack Daniels Hot Wings
    Pinwheel Appetizers with Spinach
and a tray of crackers, kielbasa, summer sausage, provolone, cheddar, olives, etc.

To drink, the usual sodas, and Jimmy Buffet's Perfect Margaritas or Topshelf Madras. Love them both. Doubt we'll get started on Royal Flush shots since it's on a Sunday, but, with this crew, we always have the ingredients! LOL
