Whatever you do, don't buy cheap. Study them and get the best that you can afford.
One thing we've found is to get one where you can control the heat seal sepately from the vacuum.
Some of the bells and whistles do count! Go to official websites and see what you can find. Do a web search and see what brands are available.
Also, you have to make sure you let the heat bar cool a bit before you do another, as it will shorten the life of the sealer if you keep using it without a break between each seal....that was a hint that was shared with us. It also says something like that in the book!
    Hope this will help.

I haven't bought one yet either. Thanks for the hints, dearie. Have you seen those funny universal lids for all storage containers? Weird.

    Notcho, haven't seen those yet.
You guys will really like the food sealers. Taking the air out of the bags really helps prolong the life of the food. Not frost crystals!

I have an older one and we use it a lot... The newer models have so much more they can do... so I'm looking too...

I have a 'deluxe' seal-a-meal, maybe 15 years old. One thing if found is do not waste your money on any bag material other than Seal-a-Meal brand. Bought some generic from WalMart....would not hold a vacuum.

I use freezer baggies and a straw to suck out the air. Cheap cheap cheap cheap cheap.

I love mine & use it constantly. It's called 'Decosonic'. It doesn't have any fancy bells & whistles. Just allows me to draw out the air before pressing down to seal the bag. It's getting pretty old but still works just as good as new.
