Freezing Friday!

  • chuckieb 6 years ago
Good Morning Everyone! Well our weather wasn't as bad as forecast. The winds blew hard all night long and we do have a skiff of snow on the ground but that's pretty much it. The sky is even blue now. The temperatures did plummet and when I woke up this morning it was -12C/10F.

But...I'm happy I did run errands yesterday afternoon so can stay inside where it's nice and warm. I'm going to make a batch of cookies for our visitors today in the shape of squirrels. :) I'll cover them in chocolate icing and I bought chocolate sprinkles to garnish their tails. :)

Jim and I have an Ottawa Senators Hockey Game to watch at 2 p.m.

I have a turkey breast in the freezer that I am going to pull out and make
Roast Turkey Breast With Ham Stuffing
for dinner. I still have some asparagus so I'll do that on the side.

My grocery store is undergoing renovations. Sigh. I HATE trying to find groceries when they have moved them to different aisles. It took me forever to find the Clamato Juice. I had to ask someone in the end. It's THE worst. First world problems though I guess eh. LOL.

Wishing everyone a great day! Happy Friday!

    Good Morning!
Yes, Janet much to do about nothing as far as the weather is concerned. The cookies sound adorable. How come there is a Sens Game on at 2:00 P.M.? I can understand on the weekend at that time but not a weekday. Are your visitors arriving tonight or do you know yet? The stuffed turkey breast sounds delicious! We will have to put up with renovations at one of our grocery stores here as well soon. I am betting they are going to do it after Christmas or at least I hope so. Lol @ it being a First World problem:)

Not much happening here again today. As Janet said it is sunny but quite cool Den will have his normal ribeye steak and oven fries and at the moment I am not sure what I am going to have.

    Wishing everyone a great day!

Morning Joce! The game is on both this afternoon and tomorrow afternoon because they're being played in Sweden so of course there's a big time change. Our visitors called the other night and are going to arrive tomorrow for lunch, so today shall be more laid back. :) I'm not totally thrilled with the stuffed turkey breast gravy so am going to play with it today to see if I can make it better. Yum on Ribeye steak.

I now have a small flock of 6 turkeys, 2 Moms and 4 first years, hanging around the yard. Today they decided I wasn't as scary as in the past so they didn't move too far into the woods when I went out to fill the feeders....aka....it's cold so they know I'm a source of food. LOL.

Made poached eggs on bagels for brekkie. The sun is really shining brightly.

Morning!! Glad your weather isn't horrible Janet. It's still freezing though lol! The squirrel cookies sound so adorable, be sure to get a picture! Yum, I haven't seen that turkey recipe of your, bookmarked!

    Hi Joce :)

Michael and I are finally moving forward with plans to build. We got in contact with a recommended architect and sent him a few house plans we like and he is going to start the process of putting together something for us. It will probably be a mix of 3 or 4 plans, or we will just have to draw it out from scratch. We are being very picky lol. So for hours yesterday we sat and put together an email with our likes and dislikes and tried to sound professional :P. Hopefully we will meet up soon!

Since I didn't get a whole lot done yesterday being consumed by that, I have a lot to do today. Meat market ( I'm really going this time lol) laundry, clean floors etc.

Still debating on dinner. Have a great day everyone!!

Very very cool you are going ahead with your house plans, Michelle. Yes, you should be picky, after all, you are paying for it and it is going to be your house.

    Good morning.

The squirrel cookies sound cute Janet. I have not see cutters in that shape but then I don’t usually roll out cookie dough and have not looked for them in ages. Have you seen Wortina lately? Enjoy your Sens game. It is not as cold here but still frosty. 27 F in Rolla and about 31 F here. Tomorrow will be as cool. It is also opening day of deer season so we will be out looking for deer that become invisible as soon as the shooting starts.

Michelle, are you going to build in the suburbs or rural area or ? Go ahead and be picky.... if you plan on this being your forever home, it is worth it. We are happy as can be here. With the sun room addition, they would have to drag me away kicking and screaming. Ha ha. Good luck with the architect. A good one can really make a difference.

Hi Joce. There is nothing wrong with a nice quiet day. I could use a few more. We have fast food tonight bec have GS with us.

Bought the remaining yarn for the Afghan. Varying blues and one purple with a bluish shade in it. This will take forever since it is big enough to partially cover one of the RV recliners to protect the fabric from Fritz’s toenails if he jumps up on it. I work on it when we watch GS swim. No cat hair to weave into the pattern ... ha ha!

Went to the ladies night at a hardware place in Rolla last night. You buy a pink tote ( the money goes to a food bank run by a local church) and anything you fit into it is 20% off. I got a bright orange sweatshirt for safety purposes during deer season for me, SD cards for the game cameras, and some misc tools Wayne picked up. Of course their sale stuff was not included in the discount, or firearms and ammo. They had some really nice revolvers, though.

We ate at Applebee’s. It and Colton’s were the only non-fast food restaurants open that late. Well, Panera’s was open but our experience with that chain is you are better off eating early.....they don’t seem to restock later in the day and their specialty salads are sometimes lacking in quantity of ingredients. If they are low on chicken later in the evening, you may easily get fewer pieces than usual in the salad.

We got pizza at DG for lunch. The excuse was my thumb was tender, but in reality I am just feeling lazy and the guys do like pizza.

The steel building is coming along. I took pix of the guys working on it. Wayne operated the skid steer and his buddy worked on the upper bolts. They each tightened the lower bolts, as high as they could reach with a ladder. I would not do well on that task.

OK I best get going. Lots to do. Have to be sure hunting garb is washed and ready. My role is a support team, Wayne is hard of hearing so I am the listener....LOL!

    Have nice day.

Hi Karen! No, I'm afraid I haven't seen Wortina for about the last week. She was having serious issues seeing. :( That's nice you got the rest of the yarn for the Afghan. I miss knitting and I really need to take it up again. Fun at the ladies night at the hardware store!

    Good Afternoon Everyone.

10F Janet! YIKES!! Nice to be inside all toasty and warm though. Fun idea on the cookies, what type of base are you making, sugar? I too hate when the grocery stores move stuff. I think they do it on purpose sometimes so that it forces you to LOOK at what else you may want to buy. Last time at my store I couldn't find Wheat Germ, asked the young man at the curtesy counter and his reply was "what is Wheat Germ?" ... really?! Have you named your other turkey friends?

How exciting Michelle to be building your own house! Do you have the lot yet?

27F is just as frigid Karen ... Brrrr! The Afghan colors are pretty. What stitch are you working?

Hi Joce. My day too is now quite.

We went out for breakfast this morning after my appointment. Decided this year I wanted thermography instead of a mammogram. The more I read about mammograms the more I'm inclined to say time for something else so today was the day. They send out the results so should hear something in a week? Went to the fitness center and that's about it for today. Will pull out salmon for dinner and use up what ever veggie I have left in the fridge. The farmers market is Monday so I'm not running out to the store.

Thanks everyone! Yes, I am going to be picky and make the architect work until it's perfect, especially with how much it costs to pay him!

Karen, we are only moving about 5 minutes away from where we are, but more into the Santa Fe area. It's considered Urban. I currently am living in a cookie cutter neighborhood, where the houses are so close together that you can see directly into each others windows from in your house and and probably have a sign language conversation lol. I hate it!! It will be nice to get some more space away from neighbors and the kids will have more room to run around and play. We may even get some 4 wheeler's :) Way to score some things at the hardware store!

Sp Linda!! Yes we have a 1 1/2 acre lot that we will have completely paid off in 2 months! That's what we've been waiting so long on...didn't want a house and land payment at the same time. I'll have to read up on the difference between a mammogram and thermography. Yum on salmon!!

Hi Linda! Yes, the cookie base is a sugar cookie. I got it from a lady who used to work for me years ago, an old family recipe of hers and it works great. No, I haven't named any of the other turkeys (yet). On the whole they all look the same so it's hard to distinguish one from the other. I'm not familiar with the Thermography. Good for you getting to the fitness center (says the woman who just shoved a second cookie in her mouth) . LOL.

So Bri and Caiden will be able to stay at their respective schools then Michelle? I'm so excited for you guys! How is the Market for you guys there for selling your house?

Cookies are all baked and iced so I'm tickled. Just sitting down to watch the game. Am heating up two Jamaican patties that I bought in Cornwall recently for our lunch. Called my Mom this morning. She's having a rough time between getting accustomed to her new apartment as opposed to having her house and her driver's license, and then having pain from her hip on top of it. She says she feels like a cripple. Poor Mom. :(

Good afternoon all. Just a quick Hi here. Been super busy this week with work and getting all ready for the wedding tomorrow. It's in Sanibel Island which is about a 2 1/2 hour ride so not so bad. We decided not to stay the night down there so will drive home after.
Have grandson and will be taking him to the wedding. Daughter and beau are already on their way there to participate in the night before activities. Will pick up a rotis chicken and deli sides for dinner tonight. Quick and easy.

Enjoy the rest of the day all and see you Sunday!

Linda, I decided to do just a basic 4 rows single crochet then 2 double etc. No complex pattern. It is about four inch wide vertical strips of varying colors, in repeatable rows, about ten strips wide or I may make it wider so the strips follow the color sequence. The next one may be a ripple pattern or single color. I am fixated on purples at the moment but maybe reds?

1 1/2 acres is nice size for your family, Michelle. Are you going to put in a garden? When I think urban I think inner city close-standing homes with itty bitty yards, due to high land costs. This sounds much better. LOL on the sign language chat with your neighbors! Blackout shades for sure! It will need a riding mower! It takes two to three hoursusing two riding mowers to mow our yard and barnyard and along the lane / road. I have no idea how many acres are involved.

Hope your mom continues to adjust and improves health-wise, Janet.

Guys had lunch and are back at work on the steel building roof. Fritz is in his bed enjoying the heater. Cats run in, hurry outside, get cold and rush back inside. Mauser is asleep in the back room. She does not want out in cold weather.

Otherwise no news. A relatively quiet day after all.
