Fridge Clean out Friday!

  • chuckieb 9 years ago
    Good Morning Everybody! TGIF! :)
I have so many leftovers in the fridge that we need to eat them all up today so I can have some room in there tomorrow and start afresh. :)
Including a picture of the Boursin cheese stuffed mushroom caps that I made for our appy's last night. They were quite good.
No plans today except to drive over to the library and pick up a movie that we put on hold. "Cloud Atlas" with Tom Hanks. Benjamin read the book recently and told us it was really good.
Jim went down on the recumbent bike but my back didn't like how I slept last night and I'm hurting a bit more this morning. Shaking head.
    Wishing everyone a great day!

Anyone have any special plans for Easter next weekend? I bought a small ham for Jim and I. Our local Farmer's Market opens up on Saturday for a special Easter Market so I'm going to that for sure. I may even decorate the house for Easter today. That'd be fun.

Hi, Janet! We have Easter breakfast and then church service on Easter. Probably will just head for home afterward! No idea what to fix Sunday. Too early in the week!

It was SNOWING this morning. So cool to have snow flurries this late in March. A slight accumulation is expected tomorrow morning but it will be just enough to turn to slush on the vehicles. When we lived Michigan we had snow through June, but This part of Missouri doesn't often see it this late. So cool!

We are going to a prepper conference / expo tomorrow. I want to try some freeze dried foods and see about the latest in camping gear / equipment. Nothing like waiting until we hit 70 to experiment with camping life. LOL! I told Wayne we could camp in the back forty and take the pickup or Gator! My idea of roughing it has always been more like staying in Motel 6! I like my creature comforts!

I have to de clutter the sun room before Easter arrives, at least stack books at the back wall so it does not appear so messy and can actually have the vacuum cleaner pick up all Homer's shed hair. At the moment Mel is asleep on my lap, or trying to fall asleep, but he is in for a rude awakening. I have to attend to laundry and check the ground venison to see if it is browned and ready for chili fixings to be added.

Am on the iPad and it has subbed some weird words. Instead of "rude" if put amuse. Subbed became snubbed. So anything strange was not caught when I read through it. Ha ha!

I still need to go out and get all the Easter stuff for the kids, and dinner! I've been a stickler for the same old and we usually do a ham, scalloped potatoes, some kinds of veggie and a carrot cake! I bought these fake eggs, they look so real, they have an egg like shell with Styrofoam inner I think. The kids can dye them or paint etc like real eggs. The were a $1 a dozen at Walmart a few weeks ago. Eggs are so expensive now a days I didn't want to hard boil a whole bunch as we never seem to eat them afterwards. Have fun decorating for Easter!

Tonight I am making Salisbury Steaks, gravy, mashed potatoes with peas and carrots.

My son is home sick, he has a test today and is suppose to do his presentation. Can't help wondering if that's why he is "sick". He did have a severe migraine and stomach ache late last night though, and he said he was still feeling sick this morning. Oh well, better safe than sorry! I have sent to him school like this before and the teacher phoned me saying he was getting sick in the garbage can! Lol, so I have to believe him ;)

The sun is shining and we're getting up to the 20 degree mark today, woohoo. I feel like some spring cleaning is in order today.

Hi Marie! Have a great day! :

Have a great day everyone! :)

Those mushrooms look yummy, Janet! As far as I know we are having the turkey we were supposed to have for Christmas. So I guess we are having "ChrisEaster" this year:) I will pick up Laura Secord Eggs for the kids and Den. We are sending them to see the Globetrotters again this year at the Canadian Tire Center on April 12th for their Easter gift. I got a really good deal on the tickets in October they were 50% off. So once again they have really good seats. Sorry to hear your back is still bothering you, Janet:( Sending good fast healing vibes to you.
LOL@ making coloured eggs for Rick to hunt, Marie:) I hope you end up getting a relaxing day.
Karen, How much snow did you get?

Den is having a rib eye steak and oven fries and I might have a Filet Mignon with mushrooms, a baked potato and some sort of salad or veggie. Not much else happening here. I need to make some banana bread with some over ripe bananas.

    Wishing everyone a Happy TGIF!

    SP Marie and Shona!

Our daughter used to be sick on convenient, for her, days. It must be a kid thing! So one time I removed radio from her room, closed curtains, and stayed home from work, telling her she really needed to rest . (This was before computers etc so all she had was a radio inher bedroom!) She was bored stiff since I sweetly told her to get lots of rest and sleep. It was the last day she pulled that one. Of course, there was the time I sent her anyway and also had to go get her from school! Sometimes you can't win for losing!

    No ideas a out dinner.

    Oops! SP! Karen and Shona!
The cooler weather seems to be hanging around here very late as well, Karen. We had a wee bit of snow over night as well. I hope we get warmer weather soon!

Shona, I would wonder if the stress of that project might be getting to Colter as well! However, you never know. I used to get very stressed out and sick to my stomach when I had to stand up and speak in front of the class, when I was a kid. One of my friends is a wonderful singer and she tosses her cookies before she performs. Then she gets up and sings and she is O.K.? Apparently Johnny Carson was like that before going on stage every time. YUM! I love Salisbury Steaks and gravy YUM! LOL I will pass on the peas but would like the carrots:)

Have a good trip to Chico Marie and good luck with dinner ideas. :)
Is Easter breakfast an event held at the Church Karen or do you do a special one at home? I've never heard of a Prepper conference before.
I was thinking of scalloped potatoes with cheese as a side to my Easter ham as well Shona. :) Your dinner sounds yummy. Sorry to hear your son is sick. :(
That's a great deal you got on the Globetrotter tickets Joce. Your grand-daughters should be delighted. Filet Mignon sounds awesome.
I have a big pot of chicken broth cooking away on the stove. Need to think of something inventive to do with my leftover flank steak.

Yummy looking mushrooms Janet!! Enjoy your movie. Bummer on your back :( We are doing a family get together thing on Easter...brunch! Cool on the special Easter FM!

Hi Marie! You must have been busy lately Lol at Rick hunting eggs :)

Glad you are enjoying your snow flurries Karen :) Yum on venison chili!

I'll have to look out for those “fake” eggs Shona. I hate buying the real eggs to dye and then throwing them away the next day, what a waste!! Sorry your son isn't feeling well :(

Cool gift for the GK Joce! YUM on a filet for dinner!

Went and got the rest of the plants that I couldn't find yesterday. Going to get them in the ground and plant a few veggies from seed as well. Going to clean the wood floors as well, all this in and out the past few days is making them filthy! Leftovers for dinner, then a softball game. Have a great day everyone!!

Easter breakfast is a Lutheran tradition, and probably other denominations as well. The services used to be held at 6:00 A.M. (Sunrise service),. followed by an Easter breakfast.....everyone brought in hot cross buns, egg dishes, sausage, ham, bacon, coffee cake, rolls, etc.etc. Afterwards, it was the usual church service. A long morning! Our church is mostly senior citizens, so they are prime for a not-so-early Easter breakfast followed by the regular church service.

A prepper expo is for anyone interest in being self sufficient in the face of a disaster, either drought, earthquake, fire, power outage, or civil unrest. It includes home canning and food dehydrating, food storage, first aid, etc.even defending your self.

The more extreme are survivalists who have BOL (bug out location), BOB (bug out bag), GHB (get home bag), stockpiles of ammo and plans for hunkering down in communities of "like minded individuals," and who have set aside secret locations for their family to survive a total nreakdown of civilization.

I llong ago decided that our house is not defendable, since we are close to small towns and within reach of St. Louis, and a zillion windows / doors! Plus at my age, it wouldn't take much for a roaming band of miscreants to do me in...LOL! But there are preppers out there who are prepared for Armageddon and ready to go down fighting.

My interests are in food prep, camping ideas, etc.

That's really nice you're getting together with your family for brunch on Easter Michelle. When is the next Family dinner event and what's the theme? Have fun planting. Anyother busy day for you.
Wow at a 6 A.M. Church service Karen. That's kind of cool actually. (Mind you, I am a morning person) The breakfast dishes sound wonderful. My Grandmother used to make Hot Cross buns at Easter. I have heard of survivalists. LOL @ roaming bands of miscreants. Sounds like a Stephen King novel. Jim and I used to camp a fair amount when we were first married but now tents and air mattresses are no longer our thing.

I can understand the air mattress dislike, Janet. We are LOOKING, not planning on buying anything. Ha ha - (Shaking head) but the idea intrigued us. I find some of the prepper info quite useful, esp. when it concerns food storage and preparation.

I want to learn more of the how-to, since my Grandmas both canned. My Dad's Mom had zillions of canned green beans and stuff she put up from their garden every year. She never pitched anything, having lived during the depression. Dad (joking) claimed they found 20 year old canned green beans in her basement after she passed. This is known humor on his side of the family tree. On my Mom's side, they canned home grown beef and it was fantastic (this was in the early fifties.)

I always thought it would be so romantic to ride the fence line on my horse, a Colt .45 in a holster on my hip, protecting the homestead. Bwahahahaha! That is one heavy revolver and I doubt I could even fire it, much less ride for hours on a horse and emerge unscathed. But the idea is cool, anyhow.

To be serious for a moment, law enforcement out here is so thinly spread out that it can take 45 minutes before they can arrive. So people in this area are mostly self sufficient, often armed, and able to defend themselves until help arrives.

I liked the sunrise services. I also prefer early morning church service, since it lets me be free for the rest of the day. I am not a morning person, but somehow still wake up at 0-dark-thirty many mornings, even after a year of being retired.

Hi everyone! Bri's team won tonight 10-1!!! We are undefeated so far :) We have a tournament in the morning EARLY in the next town over, Alvin. Have to be there at 8 and it could last all day into the night depending on if we win. Concession stand for lunch (lol) and who knows for dinner. Leftovers maybe if we are home or concession stand again, or grabbing fast food. All depends on times of games. Anyway, won't be checking in tomorrow probably..hope everyone has a great Saturday!!

Oh and I forgot to mention the concession stand has a grill and smoker in the back and they supposedly make a mean smoked sausage, so I think I'll test that out tomorrow :)
