Monday Pre-Freeze

  • MissouriFarmWife 6 years ago
It is cold and snow is falling. Temperature is about 24 F and not expected to rise. Tuesday's high should be about 10 F, wind chill of -20 F. By the time Friday rolls around, we should reach 60 F. And that is the weather report for today! Aargh!

Yesterday we had snow ❄️ In the morning. The only snow packed road was the highway from the interstate to church, the rest of the trip was uneventful and roads dry. We saw four plows on the interstate, two on other roads. Attendance was low!

I have a DR appt in the morning if they don't cancel. I just hope they can plow the parking area so we don't have problems navigating icy patches!

Good Morning Karen! It is cold here in Ottawa as well, -21C/-5F but no snow forecast until tomorrow. Glad the roads were good for your trip to Church yesterday. Good luck with your Dr.'s appointment this morning.

I have to admit to having a touch of cabin fever. Jim and I need to make a point of doing some jaunts or getting out more this week to stave off the effects of the winter doldrums.

We're heading down town Ottawa today. Jim's been sending in all the forms, receipts and things the Ontario Health Insurance Program has requested in order to try get Mom back some of the money she had to pay out when she had her Septic Shock episode in the States this past summer. It's been slow going, back and forth, but I think this is the final hoop we have to jump through. We're going to bring the completed file directly in to the office and have them tell us there that we indeed have everything filled out correctly. Anything we get back for her is better than a kick in the pants.

As soon as Jim wakes up I'll make the broth portion of Linda's
    Mia Cucina Italian Wedding Soup
and then add the meatballs I made up yesterday. Yummy lunch for us!

For dinner tonight I'll finally get my hamburger fix. I'm going to make Dahlia's
    Sliders White Castle Style
    and maybe Pat's
    Crispy Oven Fries
    as well.

    Wishing everyone a great Monday!

We stopped at Crow Creek on the way home. They were really busy in spite of the weather. I had the catfish with home fries, ham and red beans, cornbread, and very good cole slaw. They know us and brought my unsweetened tea and water for Wayne before we were even asked.

This has been real, honest winter instead of the mild ones for the last few years. At least for a week or two! I am ready for Spring!

    SP Janet!

Hope your cabin fever subsides and you lare successful in submitting all the medical paperwork....if it is anything like the USA, the paperwork is the worse part.

I think we are having lasagna today, it just seemed like a lasagna day, and we have some grass fed ground beef I want to try. Chicken noodle soup out-of-the-can for a lazy. lunch.

I saw catfish being sold at my grocery store last week. I don't think I've ever had it. Lasagna sounds perfect for a chilly winter's day. I actually LOVE Campbell's Chicken Noodle soup out of the can. It's a comfort food, good childhood memory thing. :)

    Good Morning!

Good day to stay inside Karen but if you have to go to the doctor you have to go. Just be careful and dress warm. Go luck with the appointment too. Hope all is well. Have you seen Traveler lately? That's nice when a restaurant knows you well and treats you as such. Yum on lasagna!

What a pain regarding the paperwork for your mom Janet. Hoping that bringing it to the office and having them look at it before filing it makes the process go smoother. Awww, your making my soup. Happy you like it. Making the little tiny meatballs are a pain but worth it in the end. Next time I go to Winn Dixie I need to buy a few packages of meatloaf mix for meatloaf, meatballs, and I too would like to make a batch of soup. Burgers and fries sound wonderful!

I bought a ham that I believe is not sliced (at least it doesn't say "sliced" on the package) so am thinking ham slices with scalloped potatoes and salad tonight for dinner. Will probably go to the gym this afternoon since we didn't go all weekend. It's cool here but not as cold as I thought it would get overnight. Called the tile guy this morning, took pictures of the problems and emailed him, and now will wait for his return call to schedule a day for the work to get done. We used him before so I hope I'm not making a mistake by not looking for other people to compare everything out. I'll get a quote first and if it sounds ridiculous then I'll call someone else and do the compare everything out thing. Now to finish up my homework for the car.

I adore your Italian wedding soup recipe Linda. The meatballs aren't that bad to do up and they are oh so yummy when I pull them out of the oven. (I always sneak a couple) The parchment paper makes the clean up a breeze. Yum on a Ham and scalloped potato dinner tonight. Deelicious! Glad you made inroads for your tile job. I think it's wise to give the guy a chance at the quote if you've used him before and been pleased with his work.

Made scrambled eggs with sourdough rye toast for brekkie. We're late moving this morning. LOL.

LD always hangs out in the kitchen with me when I make the little meatballs Janet ... he patiently waits for them to come out of the oven and cool a little so he can be the official "taste tester" and approve.
Skipped breakfast but did make a pot of chili. I used ground beef instead of turkey. I prefer ground turkey but had the beef to use so ...
Put a call into the sales manager at Lincoln. Before I completely abandon my relationship with them I do want to talk with someone else since the rep I have been speaking with isn't getting me information I want let alone even getting back to me. Times up and the game playing is over.

Good afternoon and hello to all. Just a quick Hi as I grab some lunch. Having left over beef stew from yesterday. Was really good last night but always seems to taste even better the next day! I put a bit of Adobe spice in it this time which "kicked it up a notch" lol.

Good luck with the paperwork Janet. Hope all goes well at the Lincoln dealership Linda. You have had your share of winter so far Karen!

Chili dogs here tonight. Not sure what with yet. Hoping I have some oven fries in the freezer but pretty sure I used them a while back. Will see.

    Enjoy the day all!

Cute having LD hanging close looking for a taste, Linda! Yes, Traveler is around. He finished the cup of cat food we put out, so I added some to the bowl. He came back a second time. After it snowed last night the cat paw prints indicated that he returned a third time, just in case. Have to get a larger bowl....the cold has increased his hunger. He drinks water when I put it out, also.

Janet, Wayne had waffles and I had a bagel for breakfast. Decided on tuna sandwiches for lunch. Lasagna is still planned for supper.

Hi Kimmer. Depending on the channel, we should be down to zero tonight, high of 10 F and low of -1 F tomorrow night. We had about 3 inches of snow and temperature is falling. Tomorrow will be a bear! The doctor's appt was scheduled months ago so I don't want to miss it. We have heavy winter coats, and extra blankets, in the gray truck, which is 4wd and has 10 ply, mud and snow tires. It is our farm vehicle for off road and fire calls. It earned every one of the many dents and scratches, from driving thru the wooded property to hauling wood.

Chili sounds good Linda. I think I may have a meal of it frozen downstairs. Should check and bring it up as it's a good cold weather meal. I'm glad you put a call in to the Sales Manager at Lincoln. I know from working in retail that as a Manager I'd be AGHAST if one of my customers left us without talking to me because of a bad salesperson.

Stew is one of those things that tastes better the next day alright Kimmer. YUM on chili dogs. That sounds excellent.

It's so nice of you to watch out for Traveler Karen. Yum on waffles. Haven't had any in ages! Safe travels to your appointment!

Jim and I went to the Library and I picked up a couple of books I had on hold and also grabbed two movies. Did I say how much we enjoyed "Victoria & Abdul" the other night? It was very well done. This time I got "Dunkirk" and a Steve Carell movie called "Battle of the Sexes", the Billie Jean King/Bobby Riggs story.

Stopped in at Home Depot and asked more questions about the door we want to order for the Pool Room. Jim is chomping at the bit to place the order. I just want to make sure we know exactly what he's getting into. LOLOL.

Got down town and delivered all the pages to the Ontario Ministry of Health. The lady who took them warned us that we may likely only get $50 back when all is said and done. Poor Jim. If he'd had any inclination at the start of this he'd have never gone through all this trouble for that measly amount of money. You'd think infact that on the form they would clearly state what they would or would not cover and say "Maximum payment of $50 on all U.S.Claims". Like I'm sure it cost them more than that to have someone working on this claim, mailing us all these letters telling us what other info they need, etc. Shaking head. Rant over.

By that time we were getting hungry so we decided to go to our favourite pub "The Cheshire Cat". I had a Roasted Pork sandwich on focaccia with a bowl of French Onion Soup and Jim had Fish and chips. The soup was horrible. No flavour. Don't people taste test things before they ship them out to the customers? That's twice now we've ordered the soup of the day and been disappointed. And how hard is it to churn out a decent French Onion soup anyway? LOLOL. I'm ranting again aren't I. :) I will try remember in future NOT to order the soup.

And of course because we're now both full and we ate a little later than usual we don't want a big dinner so are having the Italian Wedding Soup, which I just finished making, for dinner and I will push the Sliders and Fries to tomorrow night.

Jim lit me a lovely fire in the family room when we got home. He's just in his workshop working on his beer paddles. Dark now.

Hi everyone. It’s cold here as well. Talking to my mom this morning and she says it’s cold Here today (Florida) it’s 58 to which I replied. I don’t want to hear it it’s 10 here. The. She says Florida cold is different than Massachusetts cold lol. I rather 58anytime!
Tried a new recipe it was a sausage and tortellini soup from Emilybites.com. Lol I subbed ground chicke and just added 1spicy sausage (a trick I learned from another recipe) anyway I think I forgot to remove the paper from the ground chicken lol. Everyone had pieces of paper in their soup.

Oooo on beef stew Kimmer, one of my favorite comfort meals. I don't make it often because DH won't eat it but will when my little designated section of the freezer with "my foods" empties.

That's so sweet of you Karen to see that Travelor has his needs met. I would hate to think what would become of him if not for you. Hope you made out well at the doctors today.

The chili was awful Janet. We each ate a bowl and I tossed the rest. Same recipe I use when I make it with ground turkey but prefer the turkey over the beef. Good to hear "Victoria and Abdul" was good. I'll look for it when it comes out on cable. Maybe you might be surprised and get more money back than what you were told. Bummer on the soup s not being so good at your favorite pub.

OMG Laurie about paper in your soup! It happens. At least paper is edible, right.

Well I'm glad I called the sales manager at Lincoln. Within an hour of calling him Jeff called me and got right down to business with me. What was taking months with the other guy took a day with the new one. Long story short ... they can get me the car color I prefer, I'm in payments that are much better than Acura so will call him back tomorrow and tell him "let's do it". Nice too that I don't have to relearn another car.

Made thick cut ham steaks tonight for dinner with potatoes augratin, peas and corn, and a salad.

Yipes on the paper Laurie!!! But in defense of your Mother, Florida cold IS different. First, of course, we are not used to it, that's a given, but when you have a sea breeze coming in when you live next to the water, it is chilling! It's a damp, wet cold that stings your bones! Same as in the north only without the damp breeze. I grew up in Michigan and yes, it got cold, but it was rarely a wet cold, even with snow. Hope that makes some sense. But ya it's fricking cold here right now and Chloe and I don't like it a bit, lol! Move to Forida they said..........it's always warm in Florida they said......bullshit..........time to move farther south! Thinking Tahiti right now. Have 4 stores on line........no problem where I live..........right! Oh but customs and Post Office..........well never mind, lol........

Sleep Delightfully Sweet (and warm) All..................as always..................
