Oolong Tea Thursday

  • chuckieb 6 years ago
Good Morning Everyone! Jim and I had a low key day. Got a late start this morning and didn't eat breakfast 'til 11 so we decided not to head to Kaohsiung. Instead we used the "Public Bikes" and drove down to an area that is renovating some old Japanese Military housing and turning it into cute little restaurant spots. Jim and I shared a plate of chive and beef dumplings and had a glass of Iced Oolong Tea. Taiwan is renowned for their tea plantations. The earliest record of tea trees found in Taiwan was in 1717. Oolongs grown in Taiwan account for 20% of world production. Stopped in at the evening market on the way home in addition to two grocery stores. Benjamin wants to make us dinner and needs some white vinegar for his recipe and I can't find it anywhere.

One grocery store only had Chicken wings and one packaged breast but thankfully the other one had some drumsticks. I'm going to make
    Chalet Style Chicken
for dinner this evening with baked potatoes and a veggie platter (snow peas and carrot sticks) on the side.

    Wishing everyone a great Thursday!

Morning Janet!! Sounds like you had a nice day!! The little tea shop in New Mexico that we absolutley love has Oolong tea. Never tried it but I do plan on buying it next time we make an order :) Yum on your dinner, we haven't had roasted chicken in a while, that may go on my menu next week.

Tonight we are having grilled Italian sausages on hoagie buns. Haven't decided what to serve with it yet as we have had FF quite a bit lately. Doing housework today and that's about it, have a great day!!

    Good Morning Everyone.

No white vinegar? What kind of vinegars are you finding Janet? Chive and beef dumplings sound yummy as does the iced Oolong tea. Do they sweeten their iced teas or put anything else in them?

Oh no on your broken toe Kimmer! Were you barefoot or wearing sandals? Keen makes some great sandals with toe protectors.

We went to Outback Steakhouse for dinner yesterday.
We are having really great weather. I want to enjoy the lanai while we can so decided to clean the patio furniture, wipe down the fan, and vacuum the area so it's nice and clean. I like to sit out and read with the dog and too want to get the bunny outside so it was good to get the area cleaned up of pollen and tiny dead bugs.
Also called a company ... Storm Smart and have them scheduled to come out and give us a quote for permanent hurricane shutters and roll down storm screens to keep the underneath part of the lanai protected from bad weather and too if we get another hurricane I won't have to drag all the furniture and such in because the storm screen is hurricane proof too (or so it's suppose to be). Earliest they can come though is second week of May.

Not sure about dinner just yet. Maybe grilled fish.

I love Oolong Tea, Janet. Very cool that Taiwan grows quite a high percentage of it. Weird about not finding white vinegar b/c it is so commonplace here.

Good luck with your housework today, Michelle. I am sure you will figure out a good side for dinner.

I think it is a wise idea to have someone put on permanent hurricane shutters and other protective covers, Linda. After all, Florida does get quite a few hurricanes. It should also add value to your house as well. Grill fish sounds great.

In answer to your question, Janet we are going to go to Oriental Chu Shing for Dim Sum on Sunday morning. Chris is going to pick me up b/c Den isn't going. It should be great fun and we shall see if they want to go to the Chinese Market or not. the Shepherd's Pie I made was a real hit! I made the mashed potatoes with mozzarella cheese, butter, and cream and that really put the dish up a couple of notches. We have lots leftover. enough to freeze and enough for another meal. We are having salmon patties tonight with rice and a veggie. I have a few more errands to do this afternoon again as well.

    Wishing everyone a great day!

Even though we seem to get a hurricane about every 10 years or so on the west side, putting up shutters is a pain and would be so much easier to have ones permanently up that we can slide shut. Too we won't have to rely on someone for help.

I love Shepherd's Pie and haven't had one in forever, something DH won't eat but I should make the filling for me and make a small pie when I want. Do you have a favorite recipe? Yum on salmon patties! Do you make your own or buy them?

My recipe for Shepard's Pie is just with browned lean ground beef, onions, a few carrots then simmer with a bit of beef stock. After the carrots are cooked I thicken it. Then add it to an ovenproof casserole dish and add a can of creamed corn or yellow wax beans on top of it. Then top with potato mixture and put in the oven at 350 F until the top is golden brown. I make my own salmon patties with canned Sockeye Salmon with an egg and crushed soda crackers (saltines). Form in patties and just fry until golden brown on each side.

    Hi.
Can’t stick around bec iPad is 5% and has to hit the charger.
Janet, weird o white vinegar. Depending on the recipe can you sub lemon juice or smaller amt of other vinegar?
    Back later.

Iced oolong tea sounds great, Janet. I will have to try that sometime.

Cool on the little tea shop, Michelle. When I can convince Wayne to try them, the light fare is super. There is one about 35 miles from us that we have stopped in on occasion. The prep time on HelloFresh varies from 30 to 45 minutes, depending on the recipe.

Outback is so good, Linda. It is good you are getting storm shutters as well as screens for the lanai.

Hope you enjoy the dim sum, Joce. Wayne is not super thrilled with Chinese either.

We bug bombed the RV and hope to clean it tomorrow, or Saturday if the required fire Dept class does not materialize. (Depends on how many sign up.)

Have GS duty today so eating out at Waffle House or get KFC boxes. Ate at Sonic yesterday and the cost was far too high. He wants to add all the stuff like shakes, etc. which ups the cost. I like the $5 lunch boxes, since it limits the extra junk he consumes. Have threatened to bring a sandwich for him instead of stopping for supper. He was not impressed.

I find the Oolong Tea to have quite a floral element Michelle.Hope you wee successful with your housework. Yum on sausages. Our Chalet Style chicken turned out well.

They do often sweeten the iced teas Linda and they also often add milk, but the one yesterday was just iced. I saw apple cider vinegar and rice vinegar in the grocery store.
Yum on dinner at the Outback and that's great you got the lanai and patio furniture all cleaned up. We love sitting out as well and really could use a screened in area because of all the mosquitoes that plague us.

Oriental Chu Shing is our favourite Joce. We've been to the Fuliwah a few times but always return to Chu Shing. Your shepherd's pie and your salmon patties sound yummy.

Hi Karen. The two grocery stores we went to yesterday are both smaller. Benjamin things he can get white vinegar at a larger supermarket. Sounds like you're making progress on the RV.
